Customer service was unable to directly port our old landline number. It looks like you are on your own doing this with your old landline carrier. Call quality is decent, but a slight lag or word syllable clipping may at times be noticed.

I used MagicJack for about 2 years, prior to switching to Ooma. I certainly saved money with MagicJack, but some of my callers complained of crackling on the line or sounding very far away (like a telephone booth on the bottom of the ocean, according to one caller). Then MJ stopped working (kept getting error "Check Tel Line"), so I decided it was time to dump MJ and try Ooma. I saved nearly 50% by purchasing a new unit on eBay, so I was already ahead of the game. It took about a month total to get things working, partially because MagicJack was slow to port my phone number. Once that was accomplished, I set it up, with some confusion (I'm technologically challenged!) but, eventually, I figured it out and it worked great. So far, I've had no complaints from callers; in fact, they have mentioned the improved clarity with Ooma. Service features are okay, as far as what comes with the standard package, but you have to pay a pretty penny if you want the premier package ($99), with all the bells and whistles. They also charge taxes every month to your credit card (about $4-5), but MJ was starting to charge for this as well, plus an annual fee. Overall, I am very happy with Ooma and would definitely recommend it to anyone who asked.

Bought a used Ooma for both my first box and backup box in lieu of insurance; I love the voice clarity and the call screening since I was plagued by junk phone calls. Now they go to voice mail. MagicJack is probably the cheapest of the VOIP services but their voice quality was unreliable, and so my principal service is Ooma. I use both and it is much cheaper than AT&T. Getting Ooma Blue tooth to connect my cell phone to my Ooma. I have to set up my Obi202 for a free VOIP service. I have Ooma linx for my outgoing FAX.

Basic free service is a great value but limited services are available. We took out the extreme service to get a second line for my wife's business line. Everything works great and was easy to set up, but there is a $99 service fee for the extra services, but we did get an extra year of warranty on the equipment for free. We have had to reset the box once or twice in the 20 months we have had the service but that may have been due to Internet outages.

I use both Ooma and Obihai (with Google Voice that is free after the $50 - $100 Obihai equipment purchase). The Obihai is good but fax is problematic. Call quality issues happen about once a month but not as bad as cell phone coverage. For my critical business needs, I use Ooma which is always excellent voice and fax quality. The only problem I\'ve had is with my Wi-Fi router that has to be reset periodically because of Wi-Fi problems. That affects the fax that uses the Ooma Linx that depends on Wi-Fi.

Totally unreliable service. Dropped calls happen more often than not. Frequently phone rings and can't connect to the caller. This happens repeatedly until after 3rd or 4th try the caller gives up. Service goes completely dead at least once a day so can't send or receive calls. Frequently dial number and nothing happens. Maybe on third or 4th try the call will actually go through. It's cheap, but frustrating. Save money in another part of the budget.

Five minutes out of the box it worked great and I saved over $30.00/month or $360.00/year. Now that's what I'm talking about. I received a 2 month test period and knew after the second day I was hooked.

I have been using OOMA for two years and cannot beat the cost savings BUT the call quality issues are ongoing and cannot be solved by OOMA . With having 20.0 Mbps of download and 2 Mbps upload consistantly the calls can range from ok to very poor and disconnects. The call quality is tinny, echoes, and complete loss of segments of the conversation. After many calls to OOMA trying to find a fix the problem continues. I have asked for firmware updates, they have opened the band range to unlimited, I have turned down the phone volume to eliminate feedback as a source but the problem continues. A smaller problem is we have two devices in different homes so when we try to activate one and deactivate another its a frustrating experience trying to explain time and time again its not new and that they are in different homes, they continually ask for the device number we want to deactivate. Why they cant keep two devices on my file is beyond me, particularly when they have different area codes for the two numbers. Then they say the device will be activated in 24 hours, who can be without a phone for 24 hours, so each time I have to demand immediate connection and after arm twisting and cajolling its done but why we need to go through this wrestling match twice a year is beyond me. They just cannot understand that there are two devices 2000 miles apart. For a supplier to advertise the conveniance of portable calling anywhere in the world someone needs to tell their staff about why OOMA is around and why people use the service. Big disconnect between the stated benefits of the device and the actual staff support of the device.

Pro's: I can get a second number in another city. I can receive and place calls on my tablet. I get North American long distance free. Cons: Service is from people who's native language is not English. Service is poor.

The Ooma phone service has been up and down for over 2 days and no way to contact them by phone.
