ITP, short for Internet Telephone Provider, was founded in New York in 2005. They provide residential and small business VoIP phone service plans at competitive rates and are accommodating to tailoring plans to individual users.
The GoodOver 40 features are included free, including toll free number blocking, call forwarding, call recording, and voicemail to email.
Call quality is generally reported as above average to strong, with the best reception found on calls to VoIP lines and landlines.
ITP offers good customer service and maintains an easy to use website that has clear resources for customers, including installation and porting guides. Their customer service and sales teams are based only in the USA.
A phone adapter, which can support two lines, comes as a free lease with plan signup.
Also free with their phone plans is an app for smartphone owners, which allows user to make international calls using a cell phone. Their App is available for both Apple and Android devices. They also have a VoIP App plan add-on for $9.99/month that includes 500 minutes per month and a free phone number.
Plans are available without contract signup and ITP does not charge a disconnect fee when cancelling an account. They also provide two (2) months free on any plan and monthly payments so you don't have to prepay for a full year. This helps make their plans price competitive for the first year of use.
Various additional services are available as plan add-ons for an extra charge per month. These include services such as virtual fax, virtual numbers (domestic and international), fax, global cell, toll free, and a softphone. The fax option is a dedicated fax line for an additional $9.99/mo and includes 250 pages per month plus a free dedicated fax number.
They offer a 30-day money back guarantee which will refund your service fee. This is only offered on the single line plans. Cancellation must be within 30 days of activation and you must use less than 500 minutes between activation and cancellation. Any additional fees (like international calling, directory assistance calls etc) will be charged at the appropriate rates.
When porting your phone number you have a few choices, including making your existing number into a virtual number which then rings your assigned ITP phone number or vice versa. The virtual number feature incurs a cost of $4.99 per month though but is a neat option.
ITP offer paperless billing, which many people prefer over receiving the bill in the mail.
The BadPlans start at a low initial rate, but premium features typically require an additional monthly fee. This can be good and bad as it provides flexibility in building a custom set of services, but some of these features are provided free with other providers.
ITP charges an unspecified activation fee on new plans.
If service is cancelled, expect to be charged through the remainder of the current billing cycle. Also, note that you will be required to send back the phone adaptor if you cancel service so keep your equipment in good condition and keep the box, manuals etc so you can send it back if you do ever cancel.
For the 30-day money back guarantee to be in effect you must use less than 500 minutes. If you exceed this amount you will not be eligible for a refund. Note that you must send any equipment back within the following 30 days of cancellation. If not you may be charged the full amount to replace it.
The two free months special promotion provides the 1st month and 12th month free, which means you have to remain a customer for a full year to benefit from the reduced pricing.
There is a $50 charge for porting a Canadian phone number.
Phone support is unavailable during weekends and holidays, which may be of particular concern to residential customers. It is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am to 6pm EST.
ITP's service may not be compatible with security systems and other non-voice services that can use a telephone line to work. This is typical with VoIP services though.
The Bottom Line
Overall ThoughtsOverall, ITP offers a fair, competitive service which is generally low cost if the primary plans cover most user needs. Services favor residential and small business usage. If you fit into either of those categories, ITP is a good candidate. Be sure to browse through WhichVoIP's user reviews to see more firsthand opinions.

I think it's great after being gorged by AT&T for years for phone service.

I was told that there will be no charge for calling Mobile in Bangladesh. Now behind my back I am charged and today my connection was suspended without my knowledge. ITP did not bother to inform me that my bill was staggaring up due to charges of Mobile calling in Bangladesh. Even they did not have the courtesy to send me an email saying that my connection will be suspended due to charges. I am surprised to see this type of customer service. This was not my expectation. Hope ITP see my frustration. More over they do not have any customer service open during weekends and Holidays.

When you cancel your service with them -- and you will -- make sure you ship the box back to them with a UPS or Fed-Ex tracking number. They charged my credit card $99.99 and said they hadn't received it. I had proof that they had, so now they say they'll credit my card. Awful company to deal with!

Went with service as the features were attractive. Once active, found the features confusing to use. After a month the service went out over a weekend. They have no repair service after hours/weekends. No one to answer phones. Once tech was reached on Monday, I was told the problem was in my wireless modem/router from Century Link and I should replaced it. Service went out again 2 more times. I replaced ITP and went back to Vonage and have not had a problem since.

Website is vague about a trial. They say first and last month free, but this is deceptive. If you cancel watch out - it cost me $45.90 non-refundable after I renegotiated phone service with my internet provider. There are other companies who have a trial for real. BTW - customer service sounds so muffled when you call. Was going to recommend but am left with a bad taste over the non-refund.

the VOIP router is so bad that it slow down the downstream of my cable modem from 25 mps to 5-6 mps, the sound quality had been up and down, I have to reboot the VOIP router all the time just to make sure that I can hear what is on the other end. it is no longer cheap anymore since I can do better with Ooma for half of what I am paying now. they also want me to pay for the shipping of the VOIP router back to them since I cancelled the account with them. this is not what I expected, the lease they can do is to email me the return shipping label so I can drop it off at UPS for them.

Ordered this service based on other customer revies. I have never been more disappointed in this product. Bought this for the sole purpose of porting my current home number. After 30 days, no port. I called, they never received my request but took my money for set-up. I gave them 30 more days, still no port and no response from them (but paid for another month service I never used. I called to cancel, and the same day they charged me $99.99 without notification. I called to asked why and they told me they could do this if they "believed" I would not return the equipment. THEY CHARGED ME THE SAME DAY I CANCELED. Stay Away!

I received my ITPvoip adapter the same day Hurricane Sandy hit NY (which is where this carrier is based)! Unfortunately, it took me another 6 days before my service became active in Michigan, but since then, I have had no complaints. Beware, I did not read the fine print and there was a $49 activation fee..so the first two free months are eaten up by this fee - just as an FYI. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this service to my friends. I like being notified of voicemail via email and having the message attached to the email makes it very easy for me to stay current with it.

I was not told about the shipping and handling fee so they issued me a credit right away when I complained. I had a hard time setting up and the IT guy was rude but overall I like the price, the sound quality is fine. So far we haven't had any issues, we don't use our landline that much anyway. I think it's great after being gorged by AT&T for years for phone service.
