ITP, short for Internet Telephone Provider, was founded in New York in 2005. They provide residential and small business VoIP phone service plans at competitive rates and are accommodating to tailoring plans to individual users.
Over 40 features are included free, including toll free number blocking, call forwarding, call recording, and voicemail to email.
Call quality is generally reported as above average to strong, with the best reception found on calls to VoIP lines and landlines.
ITP offers good customer service and maintains an easy to use website that has clear resources for customers, including installation and porting guides. Their customer service and sales teams are based only in the USA.
A phone adapter, which can support two lines, comes as a free lease with plan signup.
Also free with their phone plans is an app for smartphone owners, which allows user to make international calls using a cell phone. Their App is available for both Apple and Android devices. They also have a VoIP App plan add-on for $9.99/month that includes 500 minutes per month and a free phone number.
Plans are available without contract signup and ITP does not charge a disconnect fee when cancelling an account. They also provide two (2) months free on any plan and monthly payments so you don't have to prepay for a full year. This helps make their plans price competitive for the first year of use.
Various additional services are available as plan add-ons for an extra charge per month. These include services such as virtual fax, virtual numbers (domestic and international), fax, global cell, toll free, and a softphone. The fax option is a dedicated fax line for an additional $9.99/mo and includes 250 pages per month plus a free dedicated fax number.
They offer a 30-day money back guarantee which will refund your service fee. This is only offered on the single line plans. Cancellation must be within 30 days of activation and you must use less than 500 minutes between activation and cancellation. Any additional fees (like international calling, directory assistance calls etc) will be charged at the appropriate rates.
When porting your phone number you have a few choices, including making your existing number into a virtual number which then rings your assigned ITP phone number or vice versa. The virtual number feature incurs a cost of $4.99 per month though but is a neat option.
ITP offer paperless billing, which many people prefer over receiving the bill in the mail.
Plans start at a low initial rate, but premium features typically require an additional monthly fee. This can be good and bad as it provides flexibility in building a custom set of services, but some of these features are provided free with other providers.
ITP charges an unspecified activation fee on new plans.
If service is cancelled, expect to be charged through the remainder of the current billing cycle. Also, note that you will be required to send back the phone adaptor if you cancel service so keep your equipment in good condition and keep the box, manuals etc so you can send it back if you do ever cancel.
For the 30-day money back guarantee to be in effect you must use less than 500 minutes. If you exceed this amount you will not be eligible for a refund. Note that you must send any equipment back within the following 30 days of cancellation. If not you may be charged the full amount to replace it.
The two free months special promotion provides the 1st month and 12th month free, which means you have to remain a customer for a full year to benefit from the reduced pricing.
There is a $50 charge for porting a Canadian phone number.
Phone support is unavailable during weekends and holidays, which may be of particular concern to residential customers. It is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am to 6pm EST.
ITP's service may not be compatible with security systems and other non-voice services that can use a telephone line to work. This is typical with VoIP services though.
Overall, ITP offers a fair, competitive service which is generally low cost if the primary plans cover most user needs. Services favor residential and small business usage. If you fit into either of those categories, ITP is a good candidate. Be sure to browse through WhichVoIP's user reviews to see more firsthand opinions.

I think it's great after being gorged by AT&T for years for phone service.

Cheap, reliable, multi-functional and convenient. But still unable to understand why billing is EVERY THIRTY DAYS without exception?

An answer to ANY question is READILY available! Excellent customer service and technical support! Great clarity in all connected calls! Good variety of options available to customers.

ITP VOIP has been quite dependable. It was easy to set up and use. Sound quality sometimes is not great (choppy), but I attribute this more to my lousy slow and noisy Frontier DSL line.

Be VERY careful to read the wording of your contract with ITP. You sign up for a $30 plan and they can, at will, start charging you as a business account. If you make too many back-to-back calls, for whatever reason, even if it's poor sound quality or line conversation bleed-over, their billing program automatically determines you are a business. I got dinged for about $400 over a 2 month period before I noticed these excessive withdrawals from my account and cancelled it.

After canceling my account and transferring my phone number in August they waited till January to send me a bill saying had never canceled. They then informed me they would continue to charge me every month until I paid the bill "because you can not cancel unless your bill is up to date". They will rip you off if you try to leave them.

Had my first reason to call customer support. Customer service representative took all my information (I thought she was a tech, she wasn't)and told me support would be calling me back shortly. Well, apparently two days is shortly to this company. Also, the tech was rude and confrontational. Time to get a more reliable, and professional company.

Unlimited calling does not mean unlimited amounts of minutes. This company charged me for excess minutes. Their analogy is that I was acting in a business pattern. I asked them to revise my pattern to realize that calls made were to the same number and not a business pattern. It was a waste of my time trying to convince them.

Very good value for money. High quality, unlimited service, and lots of extra's. Customer Service people are top rate and speedy.

I was told that there will be no charge for calling Mobile in Bangladesh. Now behind my back I am charged and today my connection was suspended without my knowledge. ITP did not bother to inform me that my bill was staggaring up due to charges of Mobile calling in Bangladesh. Even they did not have the courtesy to send me an email saying that my connection will be suspended due to charges. I am surprised to see this type of customer service. This was not my expectation. Hope ITP see my frustration. More over they do not have any customer service open during weekends and Holidays.

When you cancel your service with them -- and you will -- make sure you ship the box back to them with a UPS or Fed-Ex tracking number. They charged my credit card $99.99 and said they hadn't received it. I had proof that they had, so now they say they'll credit my card. Awful company to deal with!
