Comcast provides good basic phone service. Customer service is great, if you can ever figure out what part of Comcast to contact for your particular issue, and which Web page to use for this. If you get the wrong part of Comcast or the wrong Comcast contact Web page, they just tell you to contact another part. For example, I have navigated through their business service Web page, carefully described my issue, only to have the person reading the message say that they are on the consumer side, and I need to phone someone else. If you deal with Comcast, you have to deal with them their way using their organization, and remember that consumer and business are separate, and you may have multiple business services. I have wasted a lot of time just finding the right person. The features are very primitive: voice mails do not become emails (you get an email notification only, not the message), so picking up voice mails when traveling is a pain. There is no per-number blocking, so you get bothered by companies with autodialers that repeatedly call. The Comcast box is tied to their cable, you cannot take the box with you if traveling or working elsewhere. International phone rates are high, no features such as additional phone numbers in foreign countries. After using both Vonage and Comcast in my business, I find that Vonage is way ahead.

Be Informed about Comcast VOIP Outages Beware when Comcast tells you that you will have 4 hours of service if your power goes out. That may not be true. Christmas night we had a 5 hour power outage and lost our phones immediately. Called Comcast the next day and they said if your "node" loses power you will lose phone service. We live in an area with many stately old oak trees and we loose our electricity often when the wind blows and it's 2.4 miles off a major road, so I'm thinking that every time we loose electricity I can kiss our phone service good-bye! With Comcast VOIP, the bottom line is the battery back-up in your house and the auxiliary generator power (you paid major money for) in your home is worthless to power you phones, if the Comcast node, in their line down the street from you, is without electricity. So. . .as my dear ole Daddy always said, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

I've had Comcast Business class service for my business for over two years. This year I added TV to the VOIP and Internet. The internet is fast, with 5 static IP addresses. Pretty solid. The VOIP was great until, Aug 10,2010 when I moved my TV service from Comcast Residential to the Business Class. I ended up with 3 billing accounts, and only one was real! Many, many calls to clear this up. Lost the ability to check my voice mail online, pay my bill or log in to my account online. These took numerous calls to clear up and two months of my nagging Comcast. Now, I've been with out incoming calls on my Business phone for going on 4 days. Comcast was notified, and repeated calls to them has yielded nothing. I CAN make calls out. My clients get, this number is not in service..... and so do my Prospective Clients......... this is NOT GOOD for business. I've been recommending Comcast Business Class to some of my clients, and even they have had problems in the last few months. I don't know what has happened to Comcast, but I'm gonna give them a few more hours, then jump ship!
