Ultatel Review by WhichVoIP

The Company

Ultatel, headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, and founded in 2016, is a privately held company that focuses on providing cloud-based telephony, unified communications, and contact center services for businesses across the USA. They also offer a Microsoft Teams voice communication integration which enables your employees to make calls to any phone anywhere directly from the Teams interface. It also adds SMS capability within Teams for your employees.

The Good

Clarity Cloud is the name of the cloud-based telephony service they offer for businesses and is the focus of this review. There are three plans available which they call the Professional plan, the Premium plan, and the Ultimate plan. Pricing is based on a per user per month model like most VoIP service providers. Each plan has different pricing, based on tiers related to the number of users and also term committment (i.e. month to month or long term contracts). The table below details the pricing for each of the three plans, including per tier and term type.

Users Professional Premium Ultimate
1 to 9 (mo-mo) $27.95/user/mo $31.95/user/mo $41.95/user/mo
1 to 9 (contract) $20.95/user/mo $24.95/user/mo $34.95/user/mo
10 to 99 (mo-mo) $24.95/user/mo $28.95/user/mo $38.95/user/mo
10 to 99 (contract) $17.95/user/mo $21.95/user/mo $31.95/user/mo
100 to 999 (mo-mo) $23.95/user/mo $27.95/user/mo $37.95/user/mo
100 to 999 (contract) $16.95/user/mo $20.95/user/mo $30.95/user/mo
1000+ (mo-mo) $22.95/user/mo $26.95/user/mo $36.95/user/mo
1000+ (contract) $15.95/user/mo $19.95/user/mo $29.95/user/mo

All three plans include 24/7 live customer support via phone and email, unlimited calling for US and Canada, free number porting (keep your existing phone numbers), video conferencing (different attendee limitations per plan), one video conference bridge, transcribed voicemail to email, voice/SMS/fax on same number, auto attendants, IVR menus, unlimited Internet faxing, call presence, customized music on hold, HD voice, graphical call flows, unlimited ring groups, call forwarding, caller ID, call waiting, call parking, group paging, intercom, greeting, call blocking, call notify, call analytics and reporting, and a web management portal. All plans can include the Microsoft Team integration for additional fees. All plans also include a free toll free number for customers that have a 5-seat minimum. The Professional plan includes 100 toll free minutes for free, the Premium plan includes 2,500 toll free minutes for free, and the Ultimate plan includes 10,000 toll free minutes for free.

The Premium plan also includes call queuing, voicemail notification, voicemail drop, call recording, call monitoring, and call whispering features over and above the ones common to all plans. The Ultimate plan includes all the previous noted features plus Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Pipedrive, Zoho, and Zendesk CRM integrations, as well as customized reports, LDAP corporate directory, and multi-project conference service features.

There are a few add-on options for additional monthly fees, including additional local numbers at $1.99 per month, additional toll free numbers at $2.99 per month (plus 3c per minute usage), fax line with unlimited in plus 500 minutes out for $10.99 per month (3c per extra minutes used), fax line with unlimited in and out for $14.99 per month, and domestic SIP Trunks for $14.99 per month. International phone numbers and calling are available at various rates depending on location.

Ultatel offer a good selection of IP phones, including conference phones, cordless phones, desk phones and receptionist phones. The selection includes Cisco, Polycom, Yealink and Grandstream models. Pricing is very competitive and the phones come ready to work. They also offer a Cisco SPA122 Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) and some Jabra headset options.

As well as physical IP phones a Softphone is offered called the Clarity Connect App. This App is available for Android (phones, tablets etc.) and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.), and allows you to make/receive calls, send messages (one on one or group chats), and conduct meetings with file sharing and video or voice conferencing features. The App is available in various languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

You can contact the sales team between 8am and 5pm EST Monday through Friday via their sales toll free number. Support is available 24/7 via their support toll free number. You can also email sales or support directly. However, there is no help or support knowledgebase accessible on their website so you will need to contact them with any questions.

Ultatel offers a contact center solution, with pricing per user per month ranging from $35.95 to $49.95, depending on which of the three available plans you choose, how many overall users there are, and whether you select month to month service or sign a longer term contract. Ultatel also offers a Microsoft Teams integration for voice calling any phone in the world. Pricing varies from $0.80 per month per user to $18.35, depending on which plan you select, how many users of the system there are, and whether you sign up for month to month service or longer term contracts.

The Bad

Best pricing available when you agree to long term committments.

If you sign up for a long term contract and terminate your service before the end of the contract you are responsible for paying your monthly fees for the remainder of the contract as a termination fee.

Very little help knowledgebase, articles or guides available on the website for those that like to read up or manage their own systems.

The Bottom Line

  • Professional plan ranging from $15.95 to $27.95 per user/month, depending on number of users and contract length.
  • Premium plan ranging form $19.95 to $31.95 per user/month, based on number of users and contract term.
  • Ultimate plan ranging from $29.95 to $41.95 per user/month, based on number of users and contract term.
  • Good selection of IP phones from Cisco, Polycom, Yealink, and Grandstream with competitive pricing.
  • Clarity Connect Softphone App for both Android and iOS devices. Calling, messaging, and conferencing.
  • 24/7 customer support via phone and email. 99.999% guaranteed up-time.
  • Contact center solution and a Microsoft Teams integration solution available.

Overall Thoughts

Ultatel provide very intriguing communication solutions with competitive pricing. You can get substantial savings if you sign up for longer contract terms. Three plans offering a good selection of features are available, as well as a wide selection of IP phone makes and models.

Overall, we think that Ultatel are worth a closer look while you research what is the best solution for you. Especially if you are considering utilizing Microsoft Teams in your organization, or comfortable with longer term contracts.
