Like any cell service provider, getting a quality phone will determine if you get connection out on rural roads. We have iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s phones and go on road trips and found that our coverage on main roads is the same as other providers, and far from humanity you may run into a pickle, however that is with nearly any service. Out of all the numerous providers, including the main stream ones, I have found FreedomPop to win over and over for best value for the dollar, and nationwide coverage. My wife kept her phone number when transferring, I got a new one, and both methods are very easy.

It is a great, nice wireless provider for basic and data needs. Free Plan has 200 minutes, 500 texts, and 700 MB free data (with tweaking). Free! That is a great value! Also, it runs on AT&T or Sprint, and I use the GSM LTE SIM so coverage and speed are great. Also, nice phone selection. Customer service isn't that great due to the fact that on the free service, there is only forum service, but again, it's free. Also, some of the business practices aren't the best in the world and sometimes the website glitches out. However honestly, you are paying nothing for it and those issues are very minor and it works great!

Joined FP in 2013 enticed by Free cellular service. I was initially disappointed to find that the service was VoIP only (on then WiMax). FP's since come a long way, not supporting Sprint LTE on their CDMA plans and LTE on their AT&T USA SIMs. I am currently using the AT&T SIM on an unlocked iPhone as a primary line using their VoIP app for calls. Voice quality is great and I never miss a call. I find the iOS version of the app more stable than the Android version. When I used it on Android, I would get some dropped/missed calls. Overall, a fantastic deal for light-med users for free!

The LTE SIM has decent speed (~50Mbps down; ~10Mbps up) on AT&T's network. However, the free plan on Sprint's network is throttled to 3Mbps down, and FreedomPop offers a paid speed boost service for devices on Sprint's network. At the moment, their free GSM plan, which utilizes AT&T's network does not have this speed limitation in place. But if their new Speed Boost option proves to be successful for its Sprint based business model, don't be surprised if it makes an appearance on the GSM plan!

I was pretty skeptical of getting "free" cell service, but after I ordered a SIM card for my phone, I was shocked at how well it worked. Once I downloaded the App and adjusted the settings, I had 20Mbps download speeds and very good voice quality. I read online to check out the FreedomPop Friends program and earned an extra 500MB of data. I use about 500MB each month and about 100 minutes of talk. I also use Facebook Messenger on the phone and that easily keeps me within my 500 text message limit. Overall, I'm very happy with FreedomPop's service.

Value is unbeatable, but you have to be responsible and actually read what you're agreeing to - which is pretty clearly outlined in various stages of the order process. I find that most unhappy users most likely did not read anything whatsoever and just rushed through checkout.

I basically got this for the free Internet connection, voice and text so I can use it in case I had issues with my home Internet connection or my cell phone had connection issues while out and about. I don't actually use it much but I would say be careful if using the free plan that you monitor your usage, otherwise expect some charges on your account. Also, make sure to disconnect any devices from it when not in use so auto-downloads/updates on your devices don't use up all your free bandwidth. I would say its OK for back up use but don't think I will be using the paid plans.
