What is Comcast? They are the largest cable company and Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the United States, and as a result of their merger with NBC Universal, they are the largest mass media and communications provider in the world. They are a leading service provider in 40 US states and the District of Columbia, and in some regions, are the only available provider of ISP cable service. Under the brand name Xfinity they offer telephone, cable and Internet services that can be purchased either separately or in discounted bundles, for both business and home usage.
Comcast offers a range of speed levels to meet different customer requirements. The Comcast Xfinity Performance starter Internet speed delivers up to 10Mbps of download capability for $29.99 per month and is the entry level package for light users. One of the major selling points of their service is the ability to subscribe to Xfinity service without the need for a contract. Customers are billed, and service is provided, on a month-to-month basis.
Discounts, specials and low introductory rates are regularly offered, particularly for new customers. Customers can receive additional discounts and promotions by bundling with other Xfinity services.
All Comcast Internet service comes with Constant Guard, an online security package that includes password protection, identity theft protection and Norton Security Suite software. This service is only compatible with Windows software and not applicable to Macintosh computers.
Customer support is available 24/7 through their website, which also includes a user forum for finding answers to commonly reported problems. Support is also available by calling 1-800-XFINITY or by visiting a local support center.
A 30-day trial period (30 Day Money-Back-Guarantee) is offered with all services, allowing customers to return hardware and cancel service for no additional cost.
If you have bundled Internet and cable television services, you can watch a wide selection of movies and TV shows online, as well as live streams from several channels, through their web portal.
Customers who sign up for higher tiers of service are eligible to utilize 'over 500,000 WiFi hotspots' around the country.
Based on the their annual poll of consumers, Consumerist magazine awarded Comcast the unenviable title of 'Worst Company in America' for 2014.
They have consistently received poor user reviews on WhichVoIP and numerous other review sites. Common complaints include excessive or unexpected fees, poor customer service, slower connection speeds than advertised and inconsistencies in service quality.
An additional $7.95 per month is charged for customers who rent cable modems. This fee can be avoided if customers purchase and use their own modems.
Prices are cheaper than competitors during promotional periods, but may generally be more expensive afterwards. Higher tiered speed levels accordingly cost much more than lower tiers, with prices topping $100 per month.
Comcast has been called out in media for abusing their monopoly on cable service. They have been accused of offering slower speeds and higher pricing in areas where they are the only provider.
Be aware that data usage plans are currently being trialed and rolled out in some areas. So if you go over a specific data allocation during any month you may be subject to additonal charges.
Comcast offers stand-alone service as well as packaged Xfinity deals. The following prices are for Internet only service and do not include limited time promotional rates. All service packages come with Constant Guard security protection and Connect email service.
Note that if you believe there are problems with your service, first check the Comcast Xfinity Internet network status by visiting this page.
Comcast is often the fastest available service for many US regions. Sometimes it is the only available cable option. Their prices and service often reflect this monopoly, which results in high costs for service after promotional periods and less than optimal customer service. Being labeled the 'Worst Company in America' is largely based on customer opinions of the company and is reflected in the user reviews submitted through WhichVoIP.
Internet service can be a good value option when bundled with either Xfinity Voice (VoIP) or Xfinity cable TV. Access to online media and integration between services serve as additional benefits when service bundling. As a service, they claim to offer the best speed, support and pricing in the industry, however, it does not often meet these claims. They can offer faster speeds than competitors, but prepare to pay a high rate (after introductory pricing expires) for a less than consistent service. As always we recommend researching other cable providers in your region, for pricing and reviews to see if they may be a better fit than Comcast.
The Comcast reviews on this page are mainly focused on the high speed Internet part of it's service.
The user reviews submitted for Comcast Internet service are a mix of good and bad, with more emphasis on the bad than the good! This is sometimes more natural for larger organizations where unhappy customers can vent their frustrations. A common theme running through the negative reviews is unsatisfactory customer service, with many users only rating that part of the service as a 1 star or 2 star. The service is not consistent. If you rely on Internet Service this product should not be your first choice. It goes on and off, especially when you really need it. Wish I had never relied on this service and chose something different, a real let down.

I moved 1 mile from my old home to my new home and was hoping to keep xfinity service. I called
1 month in advance and was given an install date for internet, phone and tv. I contracted with a company to
install my TV's and sound system and we both waited patiently on xfinity's first promised install date for 4
hours and xfinity technicians never showed up for the install.
I called 4 times for feedback and continued to get customer service response that they are not able to communicate with the installation team and all they can do is escalate.
I was give a second install date and again no tech showed up and then a third date and again no tech showed up. At this point my 4 kids have gone 3 weeks at our new home without internet making it tough to complete school assignments.
At one point prior to my fourth install date, I had a customer service rep tell me that she did not want to hear any of my stories so keep it to myself. Prior to my fourth install date they canceled it again because of early termination fees. How can you have this fee when you are transferring service one mile away.
Finally one month after my original install date my service was turned on. Today I called to ask why I am not receiving a bill via the internet as I set up and they proceeded to read off another person's email in which xfinity is sending my bill and requiring me to pay the late fees and reactivation fees now.
I do not know why xfinity treats human beings so poorly. My written description can not even touch the emotional stress that they put on me and my family. We were without internet for school and our emergency land line for a month because xfinity is so disorganized. To make matters worse, they do not care at all and have customer service reps that talk to you like you are beneath them. I have run 3 businesses for the past 25 years and would be out of business in less that a year if I ran my business like xfinity.

From day 1 we never received the speed promised. So thinking maybe if we add speed increase it would be better. Still having errors. Tech's have been out but still did not fix. We add unlimited and still getting errors. They charge too much money for us to get crappy service. Help please.

This is a doctor's office and service was medium to poor. Took forever just to get a laptop up and ready to go. Called them and they responded quickly and the service ended up to be much worse and we now get to pay more each month for it. I will not allow them in my home and went to Frontier when I bought my house. I opted for Dish Network TV service and am much happier having to suffer through brief losses of TV reception during poor weather than to ever have to put up with Comcast again.

I pay $94.00/month for BLAST Internet speeds which vary from 8-10Mbps to 150-165Mbps. If I view Netflix, Apple TV or through my Direct TV communicator often the service will buffer or disconnect. This happens when I believe Comcast is throttling the speeds. A curious thing happens when I run a speed test on my computer. My BLAST speeds return instantly. Is Big Brother watching? If there was any competition in my area I'd switch. Customer service is very poor and they give unreliable information in order to make sales. Not a fan but I'm stuck with them.

Having been a Comcast customer for almost 2 years and having TV, Internet and Phone services through this provider I can report that it is a very unresponsive and poor deal. The unfortunate thing is that they have a contract with our Condo Building and the only reliable thing about them is that they bill on time! Many times there is no phone service, so if there is a need of 911 services one is OUT OF LUCK. Not to have TV or Internet service is pretty bad but not generally life threatening.

I have had the Extreme 105 for a few years now. I got a pop up this morning that "I have used all my 300GB Internet allowance". Now, on an unlimited plan of $135.00 plus tax and the other BS fees I should not have a limit. But Comcast has been real quite and done away with the unlimited plan and changed everyone who has Internet plans to 300GB per month max. My question is can they do this without a new agreement from the users? All the other companies that change anything have to send a new agreement and arrangements so why not Comcast. As soon as they offer a different service where I live this crap will get the boot. I hope they fold up shop. Customer service is a joke, I have stayed on hold for 40 minutes several times and still get some dip that cant speak English. Do yourself a favor Comcast and hire some people that speak the language of most of your customers.

The only good thing about comcast is it's everywhere and readily available for places who wont allow anything else. Otherwise this company is complete and utter crap. You don't get what you pay for and the only way to get other channels is to buy a separate package that costs way more for channels you do not want. The absolute only reason to get Comcast (Xfinity) Internet is if there is no other option available which for them, I guess makes them lucky.

Ease of Ordering Rating: What good is ease of ordering when their service is so bad that you wish you had another service provider so that you were not required to have their service. Do yourself a favor if you can and stay away from Comcast. Ease of Set-up Rating: Once again, they can be the easiest of all companies but you don't want to find out. Features Rating: Once again, why have features when they don't work. Speed Rating: And again! If you get speed (service) 50% of the time, is it really speed? Don't try to work from home with this service because no matter how many times you complain, they just don't care. I've never heard a company say "We Can't" as many times as Comcast. Customer Service Rating: They don't have any! Value for the Money: Take your monthly bill and double or triple it and then look at the value you'll get for the cost of having service 50% of the time you should. We live in a sub-division where Comcast is the only choice of Internet service providers and we now need to move because they just don't cut-it.

I would not have enough time to spend to tell you EVERYTHING that has gone wrong with my experience with Comcast. If I could get away from them I would in a heartbeat!
