Reviewers Comments: The service has been completely reliable since installation, has great sound quality (uses
G.711 codec by default), and all features work as advertised. I also have a toll-free number in the UK that my family can use to call me in the US. I installed the Innomedia MTA (3328-2R) as recommended, that is between my cable modem and my Linksys wireless router. However, I soon found that the downstream LAN port on the MTA basically killed the available internet bandwidth when on a call. After researching the MTA (Innomedia web-site
documentation), and poking around the MTA's settings using Telnet, I determined the MTA has a bandwidth limiting parameter that was aggressively throttling available LAN bandwidth. While I could change this setting locally, it was reset from Net2Phone's provisioning servers every 24 hours. I therefore requested Net2Phone's network support to disable this parameter. They did this within 48 hours. Now I have consistently great call quality (US, Canada, UK, and Sweden) and no measurable affect on internet bandwidth. (Note: My cable internet service gives me 4 Mb down / 384 Kb up - a call using G.711 codec seems to need about 80-90 Kb in each direction). Technical support from Net2Phone has generally been acceptable, but occasionally they have taken 3-4 days to respond to questions. After a month of use, I transferred my phone number from SBC/AT&T to this service. This took approximately 10 days and went without a hitch. All in all, great service, great features, great price ($21 / month, including the UK toll-free number). Recommended. |
