FluentStream

FluentStream Technologies is a privately held cloud based phone provider based in Denver, Colorado and offers its VoIP based phone service to small and medium sized businesses throughout the US and Canada.

The Good

FluentStream guarantees a service up-time of 99.99%. A Service Level Agreement (SLA) is provided to customers making them eligible to receive credit if this number is not met. This is impressive especially considering no long term contracts need to be signed in order to obtain this SLA.

Business phone plans are tiered based on feature set and support needs and start at $20 per user per month, increasing to $45 for more advanced feature sets such as AP integration, conference bridges and call center management. There is also the option to start with the low cost plan and add specific features "a-la-carte".

All plans, even the low cost "Essential" plan, offer an SLA and unlimited minutes to and from the US and Canada. The term unlimited can be a rather loose term these days, where further analysis in the Terms and Conditions can be rather surprising. However, in the case of FluentStream, other than a small section in the T&Cs regarding the right to review usage for abuse, this truly appears to be unlimited usage.

FluentStream offers a great feature set to its customers. Even the lower tiered plan has 41 features. The higher priced tier has 104 features and includes up to 12,000 toll-free minutes, along with voicemail transcription and numerous API integrations such as Salesforce, Zoho and Freshdesk.

Multiple levels of redundancy exist in its cloud architecture, including multiple geographically dispersed servers and fail-over phone numbers should down-time ever occur. This architecture is part of the reason why it can offer an SLA regarding up-time levels.

The support section of its website contains an impressive knowledge base for those that like to figure out technical challenges themselves. FluentStream also has a lot of pride in its customer support team and highlights numerous metrics on its website regarding support hold times (currently under 7 seconds!) and customer retention (98%). Higher priced plans also offer 24x7x365 customer support.

The Bad

Calls to Alaska and Hawaii are not included as part of the unlimited minutes to US/CAN and incur additional fees. This is fairly common among providers but worth noting nonetheless.

24x7x365 support is not available for the low-cost $20 per month per user "Essential" plan, it has 9x5 local support instead.

It is unclear from its pricing page if each plans price holds true regardless of the number of users. Often providers will give pricing breaks as the number of users increases.

The Bottom Line

  • Essential Plan - $20 per user per month. 41 features.
  • Advanced Plan - $30 per user per month. 77 features (including Internet fax, call recording, APIs).
  • Complete Plan - $45 per user per month, 104 features (includes call center and up to 12,000 toll free minutes).
  • Enterprise - Call for pricing (includes private cloud, peering, SIP trunking, MPLS etc).
  • 24x7x365 support for all plans except the Essential plan. Response times from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on priority (e.g. Emergency support response due to outages is within 15 minutes).

Overall Thoughts

FluentStream's cloud solution is aggressively priced and offers a rich and impressive feature set, a Service Level Agreement for 99.99% up-time and all with no long term contract requirement. It is unusual to find such an all encompassing solution such as this from a VoIP company.
