iTeraTEL Communications Review by WhichVoIP

The Company

IteraTEL Communications Inc. was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Markham, Ontario, in Canada. They also have offices in Vancouver and Toronto. They provide hosted VoIP phone services to businesses of any size, from small-medium business (SMB) to enterprise, across North America. IteraTEL own and operate their own network.

This review will mainly focus on their hosted VoIP solution but they do have a wide range of service offerings including SIP Trunking, hosted call/contact center solutions, 4G/LTE backup systems, high speed Internet solutions, managed IT services, and structured cabling services.

The Good

The first item we typically discuss is the plan options and pricing. There is no pricing available on their website for their iTeraPBX hosted VoIP solution. They do have a form you can complete to request a free quote directly through them.

Monthly service plans include unlimited voice calls, voicemail, voicemail to email, mobility features, and much more. Other features noted as being included are Follow Me, Hunt Groups, Call Blocking, Music on Hold, Call Forwarding (options include Internet Unavailability, Out of Service, Busy, and Remote Call Forwarding), Call Recording, Call Back Service, Conference Center, Text2Speech (TTS), Caller Queue, Intercom/Paging, Auto Attendant, and Dedicated Voicemail Number.

Key capabilities noted on the website include video, instant messaging between co-workers, presence used for knowing co-workers availability (busy/available etc.), and voice.

Additional features include their UnifiedAPI and CRM Integrations. The REST-based UnifiedAPI provides access to call resources, allowing you to control telephony features such as phone calls, sending faxes, collecting call history data etc. A CallNow Integration is also available, which allows you to add a link to a website or your email signature allowing the visitor to click to call you.

iTeraTEL uses audio encryption which provides security and confidentiality for your conversations.

For the employees that work outside the office, at home or on the road, or for those that like to stay connected while away from the office the iTeraMobile App for iOS and Android is available. This allows you to extend your business phone service and features through your mobile device. Any outgoing calls will show your business number and not your personal mobile number. The App can also be used for text messaging, either individual or group messaging.

There is no obvious information on the website regarding IP phones, including supported options, manufacturers, models, and pricing. Most service providers sell or lease IP phones to their customers for convenience. Some providers allow you to reuse your existing phones.

You can bundle your phone service with Internet service to reduce the number of bills to deal with. Two different types of Internet services are offered to SMBs with various speed plan options. The FTTsB Business plans (Fiber To The Small Business) include symmetrical upload/download speeds, with plans for 25Mbps at $74/month, 50Mbps at $99/month, and 100Mbps at $149/month. The FTTN (Fiber To The Node) DSL plans include a 6Mbps/1Mbps (DL/UL) plan at $50/month, a 15Mbps/1Mbps (DL/UL) plan at $55/month, a 25Mbps/10Mbps (DL/UL) plan at $60/month, and a 50Mbps/10Mbps (DL/UL) plan at $70/month.

Customer support is noted as 24/7/365. There is no knowledgebase or how-to guides/articles on their website. There is a link to their customer helpdesk which requires a user login to access.

The Bad

There is no pricing on their website for iTeraPBX plans. This means you have to contact them to get any form of pricing.

There is no information on what IP phones are supported or whether they sell them or at what cost.

There is no Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) clearly defined on the website. Some providers put limitations on "unlimited calls" so we always recommend checking this if you are a high usage business so there are no surprises or additional fees.

Accounts interrupted as a result of non-payment (minimum 14 days past due) will be subjected to a $100.00 reconnection fee.

The Bottom Line

  • iTeraPBX hosted VoIP solution for small to medium businesses (SMBs).
  • Key capabilities include video, instant messaging, presence, and voice.
  • UnifiedAPI, CallNow Integration, and iTeraMobile iOS and Android App.
  • Customer support available 24/7/365.
  • Bundle high speed Internet to reduce number of bills.

Overall Thoughts

They also offer additional services such as high speed Internet, SIP Trunking, hosted call/contact centers, toll free, voice 4G/LTE backup, managed IT services, and structured cabling services (including design, installation, maintenance).
