I went over to Ooma's "basic" service In January of 2020. While generally pleased with their service, I recently decided to change. When I joined Ooma, porting to them was accomplished in under 24 hours. Porting out has been a nightmare. It's been two weeks. Today (Oct 26th) their offshore "support" told me they rejected the porting request on October 23rd (eleven days after the request) because the new provider made multiple requests on the same day. Bull, and they admitted to taking eleven days to make the rejection. I told them I was confirming that the porting request was legitimate but she said they would not accept that, as all the requests must come from the new provider. Like other reviewers, Ooma is OK until you have an issue. I've filed an FCC online complaint, but it looks like I need to start from scratch. Beware!

Excellent product, voice clarity is superb.

One of my friends recommended OOMA which is truly an unparallel product. I have been using this product with Panasonic 4 piece handset for the past seven months without a single issue. 100% recommended.

The only negative of using a VoIP Service is no phone service if the Internet provider is down. Not too much of a problem with everyone having a cell phone these days. Ooma has not given me any problems in over a year of service. I like the call logs and the blocking service they provide.

I save at least $25 a month and have done so for the last year and a half. This is probably the best investment I have ever made. What a return for my investment (cost of getting Ooma and getting my old phone number).

Customer service was unable to directly port our old landline number. It looks like you are on your own doing this with your old landline carrier. Call quality is decent, but a slight lag or word syllable clipping may at times be noticed.

I used MagicJack for about 2 years, prior to switching to Ooma. I certainly saved money with MagicJack, but some of my callers complained of crackling on the line or sounding very far away (like a telephone booth on the bottom of the ocean, according to one caller). Then MJ stopped working (kept getting error "Check Tel Line"), so I decided it was time to dump MJ and try Ooma. I saved nearly 50% by purchasing a new unit on eBay, so I was already ahead of the game. It took about a month total to get things working, partially because MagicJack was slow to port my phone number. Once that was accomplished, I set it up, with some confusion (I'm technologically challenged!) but, eventually, I figured it out and it worked great. So far, I've had no complaints from callers; in fact, they have mentioned the improved clarity with Ooma. Service features are okay, as far as what comes with the standard package, but you have to pay a pretty penny if you want the premier package ($99), with all the bells and whistles. They also charge taxes every month to your credit card (about $4-5), but MJ was starting to charge for this as well, plus an annual fee. Overall, I am very happy with Ooma and would definitely recommend it to anyone who asked.

Bought a used Ooma for both my first box and backup box in lieu of insurance; I love the voice clarity and the call screening since I was plagued by junk phone calls. Now they go to voice mail. MagicJack is probably the cheapest of the VOIP services but their voice quality was unreliable, and so my principal service is Ooma. I use both and it is much cheaper than AT&T. Getting Ooma Blue tooth to connect my cell phone to my Ooma. I have to set up my Obi202 for a free VOIP service. I have Ooma linx for my outgoing FAX.

Basic free service is a great value but limited services are available. We took out the extreme service to get a second line for my wife's business line. Everything works great and was easy to set up, but there is a $99 service fee for the extra services, but we did get an extra year of warranty on the equipment for free. We have had to reset the box once or twice in the 20 months we have had the service but that may have been due to Internet outages.

Rock Solid Clear Voice and Excellent Fax Support

I use both Ooma and Obihai (with Google Voice that is free after the $50 - $100 Obihai equipment purchase). The Obihai is good but fax is problematic. Call quality issues happen about once a month but not as bad as cell phone coverage. For my critical business needs, I use Ooma which is always excellent voice and fax quality. The only problem I\'ve had is with my Wi-Fi router that has to be reset periodically because of Wi-Fi problems. That affects the fax that uses the Ooma Linx that depends on Wi-Fi.

Unsatisfactory in every way

Totally unreliable service. Dropped calls happen more often than not. Frequently phone rings and can't connect to the caller. This happens repeatedly until after 3rd or 4th try the caller gives up. Service goes completely dead at least once a day so can't send or receive calls. Frequently dial number and nothing happens. Maybe on third or 4th try the call will actually go through. It's cheap, but frustrating. Save money in another part of the budget.

Five minutes out of the box it worked great and I saved over $30.00/month or $360.00/year. Now that's what I'm talking about. I received a 2 month test period and knew after the second day I was hooked.

Poor call quality

I have been using OOMA for two years and cannot beat the cost savings BUT the call quality issues are ongoing and cannot be solved by OOMA . With having 20.0 Mbps of download and 2 Mbps upload consistantly the calls can range from ok to very poor and disconnects. The call quality is tinny, echoes, and complete loss of segments of the conversation. After many calls to OOMA trying to find a fix the problem continues. I have asked for firmware updates, they have opened the band range to unlimited, I have turned down the phone volume to eliminate feedback as a source but the problem continues. A smaller problem is we have two devices in different homes so when we try to activate one and deactivate another its a frustrating experience trying to explain time and time again its not new and that they are in different homes, they continually ask for the device number we want to deactivate. Why they cant keep two devices on my file is beyond me, particularly when they have different area codes for the two numbers. Then they say the device will be activated in 24 hours, who can be without a phone for 24 hours, so each time I have to demand immediate connection and after arm twisting and cajolling its done but why we need to go through this wrestling match twice a year is beyond me. They just cannot understand that there are two devices 2000 miles apart. For a supplier to advertise the conveniance of portable calling anywhere in the world someone needs to tell their staff about why OOMA is around and why people use the service. Big disconnect between the stated benefits of the device and the actual staff support of the device.

The base unit costs about $100 and you are charged $10 for the enhanced voicemail and call options. You get unlimited Canada and U.S calling and cheaper international calls. The unit plugs right into your computer or high speed modem. Calls are very clear and the service is reliable. Great for personal, home office or even small business.

Be careful as they lie on the services and the status of orders. 1) The Premium service listed on their web site had a promotion that included several additional countries. They did not deliver on their promotion. We joined ooma due to the promotion. They engaged in false advertising. 2) Phone number porting from existing carrier to Ooma. Ooma told us that our carrier had received the port order and they (Ooma) were waiting, that was 3 weeks ago. Today I contacted our carrier (the one holding our number) and they have yet to receive Ooma's order. Ooma lied and after 1 month, NOTHING has happened. I received an email yesterday that the order should be processed at the end of February - that's two months to fulfill the order! 3) Sound quality: The Ooma device intermittently briefly breaks resulting in split second silence periods. Obihai devices are superior to Ooma's as we have never experienced silent breaks, and Obihai is more comparable to landline sound quality. 3) In order to phone other countries, Ooma's long distance plans require you to buy a minimum lot of time/funds, some other carriers offer more flexible long distance plans which may include other countries like UK, Australia, France, etc. in the basic long distance North America plans - you don't have to buy additional LD plans (which with Ooma you have to purchase additionally). 4) Customer Service staff lie outright on the status of orders and do not disclose the true status of orders and requests. 5) Value Rating: Poor because we have to spend MORE than they advertised. 6) Ease of use: setup is virtually no different as other VoIP companies are also easy to setup BUT the method of retrieving voice messages can be more cumbersome with Ooma. For example, you need to press a button on the "box" to retrieve messages, so if you put your box out of sight (under desk), good luck.

I have nothing to say but good things about OOMA! I have the Premium package and they offer just about everything you can imagine in a telephony package INCLUDING Android and Apple apps to allow free calls over wi-fi (250 free minutes with the Premier Package, anyway). Everything works as expected! We have had OOMA for about 3 years now.

1. We've set our phone to answer after 4 rings; about 50% of the time it does that, the rest of the time it goes to the Answering Machine (AM) after 1 to 3 rings. 2. When it rings we lift up the receiver only to get music and dial tone: sometimes we can get the caller # on line. 3. When it rings we pick up the phone but hear nothing; the caller lets us know later that they heard us but we couldn't hear him. 4. Sometimes the incoming message is recorded on our phone and other times on the Ooma box. 5. Sometimes we get a call but the phone doesn't ring. The caller leaves a message on the Ooma box, so we don't know if we're missing important calls. We keep checking on line and find that someone has called several times and left a message, but there was no ring or message. 6. They are charging us for the Premier service which we did not order so I have deleted the charge.

I'm still using Ooma since August 2009 back when they had the Hub & Scout, and those devices are still working great. I use a business class wireless point to point internet connection, and the only time there are issues, is when the internet goes down, and that may be once a year for a short period of time. Definitely would recommend them.

I was able to get Ooma up and running with very little trouble. I have a cordless telephone. Even though I use DSL, after some very basic wiring I was also able to feed my phone dialtone to the rest of my house wall jacks to use my old reliable wired telephones and fax machine. (DSL comes in on the red/green pair, and dial tone goes out through the yellow/black pair.)

I dumped Comcast when they said that I would have to bundle my phone with their internet services or it would triple my cost. This in 2007 and I found Ooma. I was skeptical at first because of the initial cost, but I am glad that I made the choice. I have never paid another fee for my home phone since. I am not sure why others are paying fees on their usage, but I don't have any costs now. The phone service is excellent and have never had any dropped calls. I highly recommend them to all of my friends.

Ooma has really improved quality

Ooma has greatly improved their service since I first used it which was more than a year ago. Their voice quality is really better than any of the land lines I have used due to their HD Voice technology. The main thing I should point out is the fact that you have to activate your Telo unit BEFORE you plug it in or power it up. The reason is you call them to provide your information, they activate the unit so when it powers up it syncs up and is able to communicate while booting up and coming online to provide the voip service. They provide a premium service free which gives you a couple of months to play with all of their services of which there are many. If you decide to keep their premium service, it's about 10 bucks a month. If you don't, all you pay is 4 dollars for the costs associated with 911. I have used Primus and VYLMedia which was quite good when it came to getting technical support in a short time period. They both use similar gateways whereas the Telo device is a separate unit sold at a fairly high cost but it pays off in voice quality, service options and lower fees which are enough to pay for the unit over a 2 year time frame. Best Voip phone service I've ever used although your internet provider can and does provide problems whenever it goes down.

This service requires proper setup, that may be not easy to do without some help from their customer service. After adjustments all poor quality issues dissapeared. Great features are black lists and call forwarding to cell phone. Disappointing is a doubled amount of taxes after only one year.

I've had Ooma for about 2 months now and couldn't be happier. I bought the Ooma Telo at Best Buy on sale for $200, brought it home and had it setup with a temporary number within 15 minutes. I used the temp number until I was satisfied with the service and then had my number ported over which took about 2 weeks, which is typical. No hassels, handled very easily. I have the ooma plugged into a wall outlet so it is used through the house on all phone jacks and works awesome. No clarity issues, never a dropped call, very dependable. I make all calls within the US and my cable speed is 20 up and 2 down so it works great. One thing I wish they would make better is I do not like call rude (waiting) and it would be nice to have the option to turn that off from the admin dashboard but I had to contact support to make that change. I give this equipment a very high rating. I selected to opt out of the premier package as I just don't need it so my phone bill is now under $4 a month to the feds for taxes - I'm serious, how can you get any better than that! Any questions or concerns? Don't hesitate to buy this.

Ooma sells you the hardware (Telo, $200) then provides you with service. You do not need a computer running, just broadband internet service. You can send dial tone throughout your home and keep using your existing telephones (wired or cordless) if you like them. You pay the taxes and 911 fees of ~$3.50 per month, that's it. Basic service includes calling number ID, call waiting, E911, and home _and_ internet-accessible voicemail. There is optional "Premier" service for $10 per month, for with you get a second line, call screening, calling name ID, and more. You can keep your current telephone number for a one time $40 transfer charge. I have been using Ooma for a year, and others have been using it since 2004. The hardware is high quality and the service has been very reliable. Sometimes, my conversations have experienced a lag, like cellphones, but I read on the Ooma user forums that most people get very good voice quality (as I do). I am very satisfied with this service.

I had Sunrocket and Vonage previously. With both, the call volume was too high and I had to hold the phone away from my ear, and my phones had volume control turned all the way down. Ooma's quality is excellent and the service has been reliable. And I LOVE being able to screen my calls and access voicemail with an answering-machine device and/or web and/or phone in.
