Disgraceful customer service. You will hold for up to three hours, get disconnected, have
three support tickets go unanswered, and no one calls you back at all when they say they
will. Sixteen days without equipment, and being charged for service. All they ever say is that
they don't know when it will be shipped. When I mentioned that their site says they ship
same or next day, I was told to "ignore what the website says"! When I asked why they
charge the credit card before shipping, they said "we need to get paid for setting up the
account"! Excuse me? Don't I need to get some service for my money? They claim they are
backlogged, yet told me "we have plenty of help". Some of their reps are real wise guys. I
don't know how the bosses let them get away with that.
The only positive? They are American, and I can understand their rudeness!
Don't do it, or you will be canceling and trying to get your money back like I'm doing!
I'm a former SunRocket client who says "shame on you" to ViaTalk CEO Brendan Brader for
1) His statements of incredulity regarding the manner how SunRocket went out of business
and treatment their customers; and 2) Giving a message to vulnerable former SunRocket
customers that Viatalk was a reliable service; and 3) that Viatalk was in any sort of position to
take on any percentage of former Sunrocket customers and provide any reasonable level of
customer service.
I signed up with Viatalk online but when I didn't hear from them almost 2 weeks later I called
their customer service line and waited over 3 hours to speak to a rep!!!!!! only to be told my
app had not been processed. When my service was finally activated on Aug 3, I only got 4
days of service before I once again no longer had a dial tone. This Saturday, after spending
over an hour on hold as a "PRIORITY CUSTOMER", I was told Viatalk had installed new
servers and IP addresses had to be re-registered. It was a 2-minute fix over the phone by the
tech - but again, my experience with Viatalk has only added insult to injury after the
Sunrocket collapse. Stay away from Viatalk .... they can't handle their business!
The phone was ok for ~ 1 year. It's on and off lately, mostly off. Goes off by itself then comes
back. Sometimes I have unplug it and plug it back on. Can't reach customer service. I have to
go to work and rest on weekends and have better things to do than spend 2 hours on the
phone and eventually hang up. As soon as I can I will get out of this mess.
This is the worst VOIP service provider. False advertisement about two lines for the price of
one. Took 3 weeks to ship my phone. without any instructions about setup. The router was
not configured to work with their service. Spent 10 hours on phone to get hold of customer
care who hanged up on me after asking me to hold. Overcharged me by about 38 dollars
I am a Sunrocket orphan. Sunrocket shutdown while I was in the hospital. When I was
released the next day, I started to search for a solution. I selected ViaTalk, paid for
expedited processing and shipping. I followed up that Friday with a phone call, by noon my
account was setup and Saturday I received my ATA. It took 17 days to have my number
ported.
The cons:
-you have to pay a premium to get the level of service you should expect from a customer.
-poor communication by ViaTalk during this difficult time for Sunrocket orphans.
-Unlimited is not unlimited. You have 5100 outbound, non-toll free, non-ViaTalk phone, calls.
the TOS, advertising, and other documents, are very confusing and contradictory on this
matter.
-quality of call fluctuates.
-some features are not mature and fail occasionally.
The pros:
-All the customer service people I talked to were great! They were patient and understanding.
tons of features.
-quality of calls is good most of the times, but it breaks up occasionally.
-love the two phone lines and softphone.
ViaTalk is clearly having problems dealing with the dramatic growth. If you don't need to
switch phone providers, I would encourage you to wait for a month before signing up with any
VOIP provider.
I am a Sun Rocket refugee. I loved Sun Rocket. So I do not think I am not that hard to
please.
After reading reviews about Via Talk (and losing $208 to Sun Rocket for signing up for another
year). I thought I would give them a shot. The features sounded great. (Similar to what I was
used to from Sun Rocket plus a second line for no extra cost). I singed up online. They
asked for my service address. (I assume that is the address where the voip phone will be
located). I expected to be asked for a Shipping/Billing address later.
After completing the sign up, I realized they never asked for another address. They are
planning on shipping to the Service address and using that as the billing address as well.
This is poor design but not disastrous. I reviewed my service ticket and thought I could
change my billing shipping information online. No luck.
Now I am a little worried. The credit card will not process with the service address I gave and
the order will be cancelled. In the event they do not use AVS on the credit and force the
charge through, the ATA will ship to the service address and nobody will be there to accept
the delivery. This is not a good situation but not a disaster...yet.
I send a service ticket explaining what happened and that it is imperative that the address be
changed ASAP (BEFORE THEY ATTEMPT TO CHARGE THE CREDIT CARD). No response
other than the auto responder telling me my ticket was received ant they will process it soon.
Now I call the customer support line. I am caller number 29. I can wait. I will just put them
on speaker and work. Ninety minutes go by and I am finally caller number 2. Yeah! I am
about to speak to a human. Finally, after holding for 105 minutes I get a representative.
I explain the situation. He is very understanding and helpful. He can not change the address
either. They do not have this ability in customer service until AFTER my order is provisioned.
His solution is to cancel my order and let me use the website to signup all over again. I
agree that this seems reasonable and have him cancel my order.
I go to the Via Talk website to sign up. GUESS WHAT!? Now my email address already
exists and I can not signup. I MUST have a new email address, and user name to signup.
This is not good. I really need to use my primary email so everything is
consolidated. So I
call customer service to see if they can rectify the situation. I am caller number 30.
I checked their "self help" area and all I find are customers complaining about 1-3 hours hold
times for customer service and 9-14 day waiting periods for the ATA to ship.
Bottom line. My order is cancelled and I am here looking for another provider.
My advice is RUN FROM VIATALK! The 1st 3 weeks were fine, I noticed no issues/problems. Around the 4th week my service deteriorated. My phone calls and emails to ViaTalk were met w/ wise*ss responses. I was told by their CSR that their caller ID was the same used by Vonage and SunRocket (the other two VoIP providers that I use) but the same CSR could not explain why ViaTalk's ID only said "cell caller, Washington DC" when Vonage and SunRocket would provide WHICH cell user in DC that it was! (calls other than cell often came up as "private caller/number", something that I did not encounter w/ Vonage or SunRocket) ViaTalk's caller ID was not the only problem, there was a time delay (usually 30 seconds but often up to a minute!) from when I finished punching in the number and when there would be ANY RESPONSE (switching sounds). After some calls/emails complaining, the CSRs started to encourage me to go to SunRocket and Vonage. ViaTalk is so crappy and trivial that they want to charge $5 for the box that they mail me the equipment in! Although it cost me over $100 for the couple of months that I was w/ them, they will NEVER get a dime more from me!
I was with Sunrocket but my service stopped working and they could never fix it. I guess now
I know the reason as they are about to go out of business. I am very impressed with the call
quality and features Viatalk have, they are certainly comparable if not better than sunrocket
and for $199 for two years I am delighted. I would highly recommend giving them a try.
I felt it necessary to post this review due to the recent 'rumors' about SunRocket going
under... I have been with ViaTalk since switching from SR a year ago and have been so much
happier. The features are overwhelming at first, but are worth learning and there are so
many! My fave is probably being able to take my number with me anywhere (to the lake
house, on vacation, etc). I just saw on the website that they are doing a 2 for 1 special
with 2 lines, so if anyone is thinking about switching over, I would suggest to do it now
to get that special deal. I was able to keep my number from SR so you shouldn't have a
problem doing that at all. Good luck for anyone looking for a new VOIP provider.. I really
do think you'll be happy with Viatalk!
Everything is great...when it works. It's so annoying to call my home phone and never know if
it'll actually ring or not. When it does ring, the call quality is excellent (even better than my
old landline). It's just annoying to not know how many times I will have to call before it will
connect. Then, my voicemail only works about half the time. The other half of the time, it
just rings about 4 times and then stops ringing and never goes to voicemail. Very annoying!
Bottom line, I still think it is worth it for the money even though the reliability SUCKS just
because it is dirt cheap. Another thing that ticked me off is the extra $2.50 for a regulatory
recover fee that I have to pay every month. I saw that there was a fee in there, but it made it
sound like it was included in the price and never told me what it was until I ordered it and saw
an extra 2.50 fee on my credit card. All of a sudden, the 8.67/month is more like 11, not
quite as good of a deal as I was hoping for. I'm kind of thinking I should have gone with
sunrocket with their "no hidden fee guarantee."
Oh well, I'll still use as it's nice to tell the regular phone company to shove their service where
the sun doesn't shine, but I really wish it was more reliable. Oh yeah, every once in a while it
will drop calls out of the blue, but I changed servers recently and it seems to have fixed most
of that. Only had 1 dropped call in several weeks since the server change. Before that it was
about every third call.
Hidden fees, nasty cancellation policies (they keep over 50% of your money), and hold music
specifically designed to get you to hang up before they have to deal with you. Under no
circumstances should anyone sign on with these crooks.
The bad...
1) You have to dial 1 before the area code (even local) for the call to go straight
through. If you don't it can take up to 10 seconds for the call to be placed.
2) During peak times it might take a couple of tries to send a fax or update your satellite
(Dish Network) via phone connection. This could be due to my ISP.
The good.....
1) Features, Features, Features. Man, I was blown away with what all I could do with the
online features. I chose not to import my phone number but instead sent a broadcast message
to all my friends and family letting them know my new phone number. Very Cool!
2) Very easy to install. I plugged it up and it was ready to go.
3) The voice clarity is great. There might be a hiccup now or again but for the most part
its better than any Bell or analog I've ever had.
1 week after I ordered Via Talk they came out with a plan 2 years for the price of one, So I
called and they said it was for new customers only, Well after only 1 week I would consider
myself as a new customer. So they just said Nope Can't Help you
Well I was a little upset but blew it off. Whats a $199 savings to me a lot. Then I had a live
chat to up grade to to another line according to the web site it said 2 lines for the price of one.
I hit another Brick wall the Rep said NO NO NO not for current Customers only new
customers were offered this offer.
I am happy with the quality of the service Phone calls are clear, But Customer service
SUCKS.I have had via talk for about 3 months and paid for the year and don't have what I
want I am already looking into a different provider. Customer service you might as well talk to
the dirt in your yard it will give you more help. If you are looking for VOIP service I would by
pass Via Talk Even though the ratings are Good. Believe me they are not the best. I should of
stayed with Packet8.
