During the first 3 months, I had occasional problems, but I was always able to call in & receive calls. During the 4th month, I would get dial tone, but after I dialed the number, I always got a fast busy signal. People calling in got nothing. SunRocket "customer service" could not fix it, and after 10 days, I tried to quit and they put me through another couple days of misery (more testing) before I finally insisted on my money back. If you are looking for horrible customer support and spotty service - SunRocket is you VOIP.
When it works it is perfect. Unfortunately that's not very often. For weeks at a time about
90% of my calls are dropped. Then everything will be almost perfect for a few weeks then, bang, it's right back to terrible. The service department is awful (I communicate with them via email as my calls to them are routinely dropped while I'm on hold) and they always blame Comcast. Make sure you have a cell phone to back this "service".
8 weeks after I signed on, the technical support of SunRocket still cannot make my
household number ring, just a busy tone or "the number cannot be reached" message when people calling my household number. No update from their support ever, even I call/email them many times. it seems the SunRocket tech support doesn't exist! really amazing. I've decided to switch to another provider.
I ordered this phone service with some scepticism and decided to keep my existing SBC phone
till I was really satisfied with this VOIP phone. I was pleasantly surprised by the reliability and sound quality from Sunrocket. Installation was not too difficult either. Now I am very happy customer and I don't have the SBC phone anymore.
Signed up for Sunrocket, received the gizmo quickly and setup was easy. Call quality was ok, similar to that of a cell phone. I was lured there by the great price and features with the intent of saving a lot of money compared with my traditional service provider.
Unfortunately my wife works from home and regularly attends conference calls hosted by her employer. Her experience with this has been very poor. Call quality is even worse on conference calls and she's dropped out of her calls on numerous occasions. The latest problem is we can make and receive calls, but we can't hear the other party on the line. They can hear us, but we can't hear them. My wife is at her wit's end since this is affecting her work. I'm afraid we'll be switching back to more reliable (although more expensive) traditional phone service.
The experience with Sunrocket to date has been great. The Gizmo arrived 5-days after
ordering. Set-up took less than 5-minutes. The phone worked within minutes of powering up the cable modem and the Gizmo. Sunrocket indicates that it may take up to 10-days to receive incoming calls, but our incoming worked immediately. Stability of the system and sound quality have exceeded my expectations. We are operating on hi-speed cable. The special 15-months for $199 (including taxes) can't be beat. We call international several times a month and having 100 minutes included in the price is an added bonus. Great value!
Sunrocket is so bad I would not recommend it to anyone especially anyone I'm broke trying to save money and its a garbage service oh yeah by the way go Comcast it has it all.
Going on week #3 of issue, I can accept incoming calls, but cannot call out. Customer
Support is basically useless, apparently they don't listen very well, and don't care. What the heck is with the network tech support team does not directly contact the customer. Stay away from this service, should of known it was to good to be true. Time to send it back.
This site probably has more people with negative comments than those who use SR with no issues, so I'll try to be a devils advocate for SR. I didn't call the help-line, and from what it seems I was probably better off. I had initially experienced random call drops and loss of
internet service with the Cable->Gizmo->Router set-up. I emailed the situation to sun-rocket due to my schedule and found within a few days (48-72 hours), I got an initial response for my
inquiry. I responded with my issue and what I had at my home, ISP, make/model, symptoms, etc. and was provided a solution that so far has worked. The GIZMO is configured for a default MAC address of 00000000, and this may pose problems with some modems (motorola was the case of mine). The guy that helped me was to the point, and the solutions were easy to follow. The connection has been on-line for over 36 hours, the longest I've had it running without a reboot, so I would say the ticket is resolved. For $200 and 2 free phones, I'll take it. I only wish they could block prefix numbers like 877's, 800's, 888's, 866's, and 900's to stop any solicitations. We don't get that many, so it's not that big of a deal. Would be a nice feature, though.
They have outsourced ALL tech support to Phillipines and somewhere in Canada. When they tell a story in the Phillipines and was 1hr of your time, then they transfer you to Canada. When Canada does same, they transfer you back to Phillipines. They refuse to escalate your case. I ended up finding the corp number for SunRocket. Then spoke to Lisa Hook's (CEO)
admin who could have cared less that I have had issues. She gave me a US based escalation team; also outsourced and not sunrocket employees. Their I had to run through my entire 8 hr experience all over again for them to then state; we'll have engineering call you back when they can. Net Net: Sunrocket doesn't work with all cable modems and routers. Specifically they don't work with Linksys INTEGRATED cable modem, router, AP. They told me to buy something else that it doesn't nor will it ever work. Furthermore they don't have any recommended devices on their website. They are clueless. Most folks don't know what IP is. They cant help you troubleshoot, don't care too and know that they are completely unenabled by the corporation to help customers. In short they don't care and are just punching a time clock and collecting a salary.
This is my second go round with SunRocket. I tried it about a year ago, had 2 major service outages within the first 10 days, and dropped the service. A friend convinced me that they had resolved their issues, and after some consideration, decided to give them one more try.
I had my first major service outage after 3 days. The tech support person I spoke with was not really proficient in the english language, and had a very thick difficult to understand accent, making that experience an adventure in itself. And it only took 26 minutes on hold before I got support. I have a lingering problem with SunRocket dumping my internet connection at least 2-3 times per day, which has been assigned a ticket, but has not been resolved, and I get no reply to emails promising to look into the problem and resolve it. And this is just my first 2 weeks with them. SunRocket, for all their talk about a Customers Bill of Rights, service policies etc. just doesn't get it. They provide little or no support, a product that doesn't work more often than it does, and they don't respond promptly to customer service emails. Before SunRocket, I had Vonage for 2+ years, with little or no problem. The only reason I made a switch was based on price, and a few features. I'm going back to Vonage. I guess it proves the old addage "You get what you pay for".
Sunrocket behaves like a criminal enterprise. Service failures virtually every single day of
service until we switched carriers. Multiple calls and emails, no response, total, absolute inability or unwillingness to address technical problems. Sunrocket knows it cannot provide any service to at least some of its customers, but markets aggressively anyway. Strategy is simple: market lowest rates in the industry, friendly web site, and assume customers will accept having episodic phone service with multiple daily disruptions and failures, or cancel and not doing anything about it since VOIP is unregulated. Also, ignore all calls and emails (in fairness, they can only handle so many complaints per day, are they in the thousands ? millions ??). For all reading this, you've been warned. Especially if you have children at home, DO NOT even think about Sunrocket (our babysitter was left stranded with no phone service, no way to contact us, home along with our 1 year old).
I found this service through your web site and I thought I'd write a review. There seems to be a
lot of negative reviews regarding Sunrocket but I have not had any trouble. The equipment arrived in about 3 days and it took about 20 minutes to set up, the free phones are a great bonus - particularly if you have a teenage daughter who is very impressed she has her very own number that she can give to friends - no extra cost. The sound quality has been good, the odd echo and some hiss on occasions but no dropped calls, certainly not worse the a land line. I've never dealt with customer service, so I can't really comment. I love the fact I can pay $200 once a year and not worry about phone bills. I'm so glad I got VoIP, not only have I reduced by bill by several hundred dollars but I've actually made a teenager happy and it didn't cost me a cent!! Anyone out there who has a doubt should just sign up for the monthly plan and try it.
