Sunrocket voip What can one say: Don't be con'd into a SunRocket account I have over 15 years of Telephony and Network Technology and yep we were taken up by this company into believing that they were sincere about setting up a new VOIP account with us. They were not! It has been a nightmare getting them to work with us in fact this is a non U.S. company based in the Philippines!
First when we got their so called GIZMO it came without any phones as promotionalized and we called and emailed them about this first issue. That in itself should have warned us to cancel right then and their. Next I setup their Gizmo device as described in their easy to read instructions. It was easy to read and follow, I'll give them that much! Once setup I had trouble getting on to the Internet, I mean any slower it could have been hooked up to a phoneline on a 1200 baud modem, that is how slow it was! That is not exaggerating! It turned out we had to buy another router; our USR 8054 wasn't good enough and it turned out we had to buy a linksys router, man oh man was Vonage all over that (Should a hooked up with Vonage).
Once I hooked up the Linksys Router it was in fact better but not the download speed we were accustom to with Comcast and our USR 8054 router. It was more like a slightly normal DSL connection , which we are not (Cable Modem). That issue was better but still not agreeable with us. Next we had a Number Transfer that was applied for the same day we ordered the SunRocket account, Nov. 18th, 2005 That is the big issue: Sunrocket from the day it subscribed and charged our service has not requested (as found out today) No. Transfer with Talk America and has lied about it since last week! Not only have they Lied they have not tried to resolve the issue nor call us to advise us where they are with this problem. Honesty could have been the best policy! Don't be duped into believing this is the only problem do a search for Sunrocket in Google and you will find out they are really a bad service and many have dropped them and gone with Vonage (Hey Vonage you should p/u this on your link)! We have given Sunrocket till 3:40P.M., EST to resolve this issue today and call us back with a director in the U.S. but this is doubtful. Sunrocket vs Vonage - No contest
am pretty much irritated and frustrated with this company. I have ordered this service on nov 25. I got the sunrocket gizmo on NOV 30 by UPS. I cancelled the service with in 2 days as I was not satisfied with sunrocket's voice quality. To my surprise instead of refunding my money customer service representative charged me extra $199. I payed $388 for 2 days. when contacted customer support they issued me a ticket number on Dec 3 which stands still unresolved (on DEC 28) . I contacted them many times on mail and phone only to get a pathetic reply saying...i got this reply more than 3 times till now We would like to apologize for the delayed reply due to the sudden surge of e-mails, both from new and current SunRocket subscribers. We are hoping for your kind understanding regarding this matter. We
are also reaffirming our commitment to you for better service and timely response as we are firm believers of good customer service. Regarding your issue, I have updated your Ticket which is in queue with the Billing Department. When it is your turn in the queue, an agent will contact you ASAP by phone or email for resolution. If you have additional questions, please contact SunRocket Member Services at 1-800-786-0132 or send an e-mail to memberservices@sunrocket.com. You can also chat with us online. Service hours are am to Midnight (ET), 7 days a week. Thank you choosing SunRocket. Sincerely, Edgar Maddela SunRocket Member Services SO BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU ARE ORDERING SUNROCKET...I RATE THIS PRODUCT 2 OUT OF 10.
I recommend Sunrocket to everyone! Ditch the local carrier, lower your cell minutes and save money. I probably save about $65 a month easy between killing my home service thus having no long-distance bill and lowering cell phone minute plan
I work at home and have 1 home number, 1 business number and have a third fax number with distinctive rings. Use a phone switch and its like you have 3 numbers. Faxes and conference calls are perfect. Yes FAXING WORKS GREAT. I ditched Qwest home service and use VoiIP 100% even dropping my cell phone minutes plan saving more on long distance.
I couldn't pass up the offer. turns out to be like $17 a month. ALL equipment (free cordless phones too!) was included, no setup, shipping or hidden charges. setup was literally 2 minutes and I was going. One "down time" was that voice mail was out for one 3 hour span in the last 6 months. Only 2 gripes: 1. There's cheezy "hold" music for people holding on call-waiting. They said they can't turn it off for technical reasons. 2. Friends say the voice mail prompt "voice" sounds like some lady from a 900-service. Oh well, it serves up laughter and people think I have a big IT "department" when they reach my business voice mail.
Here's a TIP if you use Voip for home service and ditch the local company like me: Go out to where the phone company connects to your house, usually outside, and disconnect the live line from the house. You can then plug the "Gizmo" into any phone jack in your house and have VoIP dialtone in ALL your existing outlets. Yes, the Voip box can light up all your old jacks. Use any phone, corded or not.
I ordered the SR service by phone on a Wednesday and I couldn't believe it when on Friday the UPS guy delivered my Gizmo and the free Uniden phones. I set the system up in just a few minutes but couldn't get a dial tone. I phoned SR and talked to a friendly customer service rep. in about 3 minutes. She walked me through a few steps and was honest when she said she couldn't fix my problem and would escalate it to their engineering dept. I figured "oh boy, here we go, they'll never call me back". Again, to my surprise, within about 2 hours a very friendly guy called and told me that he had fixed my problem from their end and to just reboot my Gizmo, I did, and the service has been functional ever since.
I am amazed at the number of features you get and how convenient they are. I wouldn't have thought I'd ever need most of them, but after they are offered to you and you use them, you'll wonder how you did without them, like the "find me forwarding", voicemail notification by email, etc. I am using the lowest speed DSL Verizon has 768/256K and I have wonderful call quality and clarity. My voicemail was not picking up at first and I logged on to SR website and utilized their online chat help and that was very convenient and helpful. Any problems I have called them with, they've immediately answered and gone above and beyond to assist me, so I am wondering why some reviews have stated they've had to wait so long for a rep. on the phone.
The SR is great as far as value is concerned also, I paid 199.00 out the door (about 16.50 a month) and I get all the calling features, E911 too, and the free phone set, which I found at walmart's website valued at about 60.00 or so, and for my 199 I get an entire year of phone service. I didn't have to pay an activation fee, I didn't have to pay for my Gizmo, nothing. Some of the other companies I looked into seemed like a great deal, but by the time you added shipping, activation fees, equipment fees, etc...they were truly NOT a bargain. SR also has no termination fee if you return their equipment and they'll refund the unused portion of your 199.00. I have had 3 problems to date, the initial set up, which was solved. The non functioning outbound caller ID which they are working on now along with my Voice mail which will not pick up yet and they are also working on that. I'm confident they will fix those minor issues just like the other. I am now saving over 50 bucks a month and I couldn't be happier.
I ordered this service on 12/14 and received my kit less than 48 hours later. I was online and making calls literally within 5 minutes of opening the box. Following the enclosed directions and without any tweaking, I successfully made local and long distance calls that were cell-phone quality. I suggest configuring the gizmo online to control the amount of bandwidth allocated for phone calls to improve both call quality and internet speed.
Doing so made my calls sound great. it is early in my experience and anything can happen, but so far I am very impressed with this service, especially the features and quality for the low price. It seems that Sunrocket had some growing pains earlier this year, but things appear to be much better now. The advertised features are all working well, and I was receiving incoming calls almost immediately. Today I will check e911 and fax capability and see what happens. I've only called CS one time, and that was to get information about the service before signing up. They were extremely nice and helpful. I am hoping that I will be able to troubleshoot most problems on my own and avoid CS calls, but I have no reason to believe that CS will be a problem at this point. I am so impressed with the value for my money. The free Uniden phones are excellent (so much so that I plan to buy more receivers for my home) and, after tweaking, the phone call quality in and out is crystal clear.
Caller ID is working, and I had no trouble configuring my voicemail box. I am keeping my POTS line to ensure access to 911 in the event of an internet or power outage, but I was able to cut my regular monthly Verizon bill from $40 to $16 by stripping it to the bare bones and relying on Sunrocket for the extras (that are all included for the same price, by the way). I am hopeful that Sunrocket has worked through its glitches and growth issues and will continue to provide the quality of service that most people have enjoyed since their last big upgrades a few months ago. I
know many people have reported problems with call quality and loss of internet speed, but a few quick adjustments seem to make all the difference with VOIP providers.
A few suggestions: After setting up your modem-->gizmo-->router per the Sunrocket instructions, logon to your gizmo by entering the IP address http://192.168.251.1/ and logging in using the default password "welcome." Once there, you can adjust the amount of bandwidth reserved for the phone by going to the LAN tab and changing your dynamic rate limit user upload to about 200 kbps. This will reserve more for the phone calls but apparently release it when the phone is not in use to better free up your internet connection resources. Also, keeping the Uniden phones charged and away from microwaves and other antennae makes a huge difference in phone quality. I also understand that you can ask Sunrocket tech support to push firmware upgrades to help your gizmo work better for you, so try that too if you are having trouble with call quality, faxing or reliability. I found a lot of great information on fatwallet.com's forums and it has made Sunrocket installation a much easier transition.
At this point, I would recommend Sunrocket with the caveat that VOIP is relatively new technology and you can't expect it to be 100% as reliable as most POTS lines. Still, the service right now is outstanding for the price, and I am very pleased. I look forward to being able to post a positive review 6 months down the road, too.
(1) It took 10 days from the time of ordering on line for my equipment to arrive, while the billing started the date of my order. (2) E-mails sent to "memberservices" and to "BuildItBetter" continue to go unanswered. When I finally give up and call, I get someone with very poor command of the American form of the language, and that is after waiting as long as 23 minutes on hold for a CSR. Hell, these people make QWEST look good!
I have had VoIP service with SunRocket for about 9-months now. I signed up late at night on March 8th, and I received the "gizmo" around noon on March 12th. Hook-up was very easy with the simple instructions they provide. I was done within 10-minutes and was making and receiving calls a few minutes later. For the most part, the service has been reliable. There have been several outages, which I think were a result of so many new customers signing up with SunRocket that they experienced network capacity issues. The most recent outage was in the middle of September, and they informed customers that a series of upgrades were done to more than double their network capacity, and I am not aware of an outage ever since. Since I had never used a VoIP service before, I wanted to "test" SunRocket's service
to see if it seemed reliable enough before porting my telephone number with Verizon over to SunRocket. The first month was great, so I requested to port my telephone number, and it took 28-days for the transfer to be completed. Customer service has always very courteous anytime I have contacted them via telephone, e-mail, or their chat feature. Based on my experience and the experience of my brother and friend who also have the service, the first level representatives can not answer in-depth technical questions, but the second level representatives can quickly resolve any issues. SunRocket includes a plethora of features (voicemail, Caller ID, call waiting, etc.) with the service, and also provide a second free "signature" telephone number. For $199 per year ($16.58 per month), SunRocket is the value leader among VoIP service providers. I highly recommend them.
SunRocket is extremely sensitive to your modem. I had bad echo problems and poor sound quality with my Toshiba cable modem. Customer service just told me to test the QoS rating, which was fine. I then replaced the Toshiba with a Motorola 5120 and the problems disappeared! Instead of sending free phones SR should send a good SR-friendly cable modem.
I see SR has added unlimited calling to Puerto Rico now. It's really an excellent deal. My SR experience has been excellent so far...including the "wife test". She's a talker. Enjoy the savings and the service.
I'm pretty happy with SunRocket. With the features I get (getting emailed when I have a voice mail is really cool), I'm ok with the one issue I've had. At times when my cable speeds lag I get an echo. It rarely happens and it's more of a problem with rented lines than with the VOIP technology. I'd assume any VOIP would give me those problems. For the price and features you can't beat hanging up the traditional phone. We don't even have a traditional phone in our house anymore. Bye, Bye BellSouth!!
The Sunrocket Gizmo quit after 5 months of service.
It is a very common problem due to bad quality the Sunrocket Gizmos quit after 6-12 months of service. The customer service hold times are anywhere from 20 min to 45 mins. No reply to the email to customer service. If you order this service, Please maintain an existing service too. It's surprising how fast customer service reacts once you choose you are a new customer. It's been 1 MONTH and my sunrocket service is still not fixed.
Sunrocket took about 10 days from day of order until receipt of my package with the phones and Gizmo. As soon as I connected it, the phone could send and receive calls right away.
The quality is pretty good, especially since the unit is installed behind a router and one network switch. It's actually really good if I figure that part into the equation.
Open and forward ports 5060 and 10000-20000 on your router if you absolutely have to install the Gizmo behind a router.
Customer service is impossible to get in touch with, but as long as the service works, I don't really care to talk to them anyways.
