Phone.com was founded in 2007 and targets the Small and Medium sized Business (SMB) space with its self-service cloud platform, offering enterprise level features at an SMB price.

The Good

There are pricing plans to cover all business models, ranging from per minute pricing to unlimited minutes and extensions. On the per minute side you can choose a Base, Plus or Pro plan ranging in price from $12.99/month to $39.99/month. These plans have unlimited user extensions and includes a small amount of minutes and then you pay per overage minute beyond that, starting at 3.9c/min. The unlimited plans are also called Base, Plus and Pro but include unlimited minutes. These range in price from $29.99/month/user through to $59.99/month/user. The Plus and Pro plans address additional items such as more phone numbers, toll free numbers, additional SMS messages etc. Each plan also has an annual option where you pay up-front for a year but obtain significant savings.

Phone.com offers over 40 standard features included with each plan and has some advanced features such as video conferencing, call analytics and call recording for additional cost (unless you are on higher tier plans where some are included). There are also integration plugins from popular CRMs such as Zoho and Salesforce.

A large number of IP phones are supported from Yealink, Polycom and Cisco and it looks like these phones are subsidized by Phone.com as pricing is competitive. You can also Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) if you already own IP phones. The Phone.com cloud platform supports a vast number of phones so it is likely that support is available for your device.

You can take advantage of the Phone.com App on your smart phone (Android and iOS supported and the App is free) and also on your MAC and Windows based PCs ($5 cost for PCs). This enables you to turn your smart phone or PC into an extension for your business phone system. You can send and receive SMS messages, make and receive calls and even send and receive faxes.

Customer service is all in-house and there are multiple options for contacting them, including email, live chat and by phone. There is also a system status page that shows all current and past incidents, which is helpful. For phone calls, support is available Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm Pacific Time. Phone.com has some useful setup guides to help get you up and running quickly.

The Bad

Check the terms and conditions for unlimited minute plans as there are restrictions for the unlimited options. Most providers have these restrictions to protect themselves but you should check them to ensure there are no corner cases based on your calling patterns.

There is a 30-day money back guarantee offered. However, this only applies to the base per minute plan which has 300 minutes included.
