its been 2 months since
I received their instrument. After 2 months of calling the customer
support, they finally agree that the device that was delivered is bad and would need a replacement ..... A new device going bad ..
that's new to me.
I had Lingo for two months and the quality of the phone audio was much worse that a bad cell
connection. Getting them on the phone was only possible from another number and they insisted I call back on the unusable Lingo phone, which did not work! The service reps are all in India and it took me over an hour to get them to turn off my service. Then, every month I received another bill and I would call the rep in India who knew nothing about anything, and told me that my phone was still working. The charges were taken from my credit card account and so I discussed the situation with them and they stopped Lingo from stealing even more money from me through that account. Now I get letters from their collection agency and phone calls from them on my cell phone threatening to "Ruin my credit rating" if I don't pay my bills for their abysmal non working phone. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my 57 years. I believe their behavior is criminal. Do not use this company!
I am not happy with this service. It goes down at least 1-2 times every other week. Also, if
Someone is downloading or surfing the net while we are on the phone, there is a significant degradation (loss) of sound quality. People on the other end of the phone line complain that I sound garbled or muffled. I also notice and I'm not sure if this is common amongst other voip providers, that my net bandwidth is significantly lower with the lingo box hooked up. I verified this by taking the lingo box out temporarily and noticed that my transfer rates increased to an average of 1200 kbps download 300 upload .. With lingo box avg rates are 450 kbps download 100 upload!!! Also, when I was on the phone with tech support when my phone was down for 4 days, it seemed I knew more about my lan setup than him!
No complaints on service or sound quality after enabling connection enhancer. Box quit
after 1 year. After a reasonable wait for Lingo CS they had me go thru several steps then agreed it's dead. Sent another box in 2-3 days. Only CS issue is CS don't know you have to turn off Lingo's voice mail if you have no answer transfer to cell. Just use cell's VM and it works finer than frog hair. Happy camper!
Lingo is a fraudulent company. I canceled their service 15 months ago, and
transferred the phone number to another service provider because the line didn't work and they were unable to make it work within a month. Then 6 months ago I saw that they kept charging me. I called and they apologized and said it would be canceled. 3 months ago they were still charging, so I called up and complained again, they apologized again. The last 3 months I have canceled their service, and each month they have charged me. They are frauds, they are cheats, and they will swindle you. I am now preparing to sue them over the $1000 that they have taken from my bank accounts. DO NOT USE LINGO.
This is much cheaper option for those using Vonage. Their basic service is only 8 bucks a
month. Plus, their international rates are some of the lowest among all the service providers. Their rate for India is about 8 cents a minute.
I constantly have had echo and voice break-ups (sounds like a robot). Customer service has
always been pretty prompt for talking to a live person. However, there has been MANY reasons for why this is happening: 5.8 gig phone, switched to a 900 mhz, the phone box was too close to router, moved it away, slow internet speed, increased to a 512, there was a slight
breeze or the sun was shining.... Now, when I make local phone calls it is dead air sound on my end while the other end is ringing and of course you know it, I'm not answering cause I have dead air. OK, my hubby works for a mental hospital and you could imagine what they were thinking when I called several times and no one was there.... NOT GOOD! Lingo has no idea what this is caused from cause everything is working fine!! HA HA We still have lingo and tolerate the voice break-ups and echoing for now, looking for new service is not easy and I don't want to go back paying so much money for local service. The plus was keeping our existing phone number!
When I was looking for a VOIP provider, I considered Vonage, ATT, TimeWarnerCable, and a
few others, but ended up deciding on LINGO because of their price and features, and the fact that if you refer another individual and s/he decides to sing up we both receive a $25.00 credit to each other's accounts, hence giving you a free service month. I have had the service now for almost a year and a half and have had no problems with the service. There have been a few times in which I don't have service, but it turned out that it wasn't LINGO, but TimeWarner's Internet Service quality. That being said, I have enjoyed my
service and totally enjoy the many FREE month's for which I have provided a referral to many and they have in turn replied to me letting me know that they are also enjoying a good value. PLEASE NOTE: First, make sure that you connect your LINGO ATA to your Router (if you have one) or immediately after your Modem (if you don't have a Router), this will allow you to ensure that you have the best connection. Second, Login to your Lingo account, click on Support, then click on Connection Enhancer, then make sure to select "Highest Call Connection Speed" to ensure that your ATA has be best access to the internet service. I haven't found any drag or difference in my Internet Connection Service speed, and if you connect your ATA as I mention above, you will definitely not have any problems whatsoever. Best of luck in enjoying the service.
Until I got Lingo, my phone bills were between $200-300. I now just pay the monthly Lingo
fee, $22, and I am all set. I make a lot of calls to Germany, sometimes 3-4 hours a day. This service is a life saver. What I really like is the forwarding ability. I go to the Lingo site and can set the forward to a German number and call the Lingo phone with my cell phone from the car or while out shopping. I call my wife sometimes to go on the website and change the forward number to another place in Europe. THIS IS A GREAT FEATURE IF YOU HAVEN'T USED IT! Only drawback is I moved to Hawaii and there isn't a local phone number here through Lingo, so I kept my Texas number. Also, I am on today because I just switch to cable service and having problems reconnecting to Lingo (I am using the forward feature to make my calls through my cell phone).
service began a gradual continual decline after about 5mos, great before that, though there
were several Cust Svc calls w/ several periods of spotty service in the interim. issues like echo, loss of dial tone and loss of access to voicemail. final straw was two weeks with no dial tone and no real help from Cust Svc and no suggestions for resolving the problem. that the problem could be allowed to continue for so long is amazing. this company provides horrible service and I hope no one else falls into their trap. to bad I have to return to cable with their higher rates but I'm willing to pay for the reliability and decent voice quality
Initially, lose the voip ip connection every other day. After 10 calls into phone support, they promote my ticket to level two support. The device stays connected for two
months. Then, the device loses it's voip connection again, about every other day. I went around and around with them until I my ticket got promoted to level two support. They once again resolved the problem in minutes. This has been going on for over a year. Therefore, I am dropping my service with Lingo. The level one support is terrible. They have no expertise and only can follow prompts. They speak poor English. I believe the level two support is up in Canada and speak English. However, I cannot handle the device not working every two or three days. The longest up time was a little over a month.
I've had great luck with Lingo and would recommend the service. Voice quality is great,
number availability is awesome. After 2 years, I just discontinued my landline and the port over was easy and quick. I had about 2 days of downtime in the last 2 years. Customer service is slow, but I only called it once for a very minor billing issue in which I had made a mistake. Recommended!
