Tracking VoIP's ROI Goes Beyond Simple Math
VoIP has never been a slam-dunk technology; it was a particularly tough sell when the benefits of deploying the technology amounted to cheaper long-distance calls at the cost of ripping out a PBX infrastructure that worked just fine. In these days of converged networks, VoIP offers an enterprise advantages beyond lowering toll charges. Nevertheless, one of the major barriers to implementing VoIP remains for many network managers: justifying the costs. According to BT INS Inc.'s Voice over IP 2007 Industry Survey, the biggest hurdle for 32 percent of respondents is being able to show that a VoIP solution will provide a positive ROI (return on investment), a challenge that has grown since 2005. Furthermore, 46 percent of respondents cited justifying the cost to upper management as a top obstacle....

Microsoft announces VoIP phone pricing for SMBs
Today, Microsoft released pricing for its SMB Response Point software bundled with twenty-phone systems from Quanta and D-Link. These will cost less than $5,500, the company said. A third phone vendor, Aastra Technologies, is planning on releasing Response Point systems in 2008. A complete package that includes a base unit with built-in analog telephone adapter (ATA) and secure gateway, plus four phones, will cost about $2,500, Microsoft said.
