Broadband Providers Duck VoIP Questions at FCC Hearing
Comcast Corp. took hits from all sides at the FCC's (Federal Communications Commission) recent hearing on broadband-network management practices, held at Stanford University. But by its own choice, the cable-broadband provider was not there to defend itself. The charges were, among others, that Comcast's blocking of P2P (peer-to-peer) traffic actually proves the necessity of network-neutrality rules. Comcast considers the blocking a justified network-management technique. Network management is a key concern among all VoIP providers, who fear network operators could use similar techniques to block or degrade competitive services such as theirs....
