Reviewers Comments: We ordered VONAGE in April 2006, two lines. One line transferred within 20 days and we
hooked a fax machine to it. It worked as expected, but the set up took about two days to get working. About 4-5 calls to tech support. Our other phone line took over two months to transfer. Vonage took the maximum number of days until they alerted us to a problem. Was unable to get a straight answer from anyone as to why the line was not transferring. Paying for
service all along. When the line finally did transfer (took two months and 16 days after we placed the original order- Paying the full amount all the way along) it transferred. At that point, neither line worked. The fax line, which worked for 2 months and 16 days, stopped working. We could no longer send or receive faxes. Additionally the number that just transferred did not work either. After MANY calls to tech support, 22 hours and counting, it works while the tech support reps are on the phone, but within 1 hour we no longer receive calls and you are immediately dumped into voice mail when a call comes in.
This it true for both our lines. It works intermittently at best. We have rebooted the Motorola device 15 times in 1 24-hour period to no avail. Then we were told that to make the fax line work we had to buy a “Fax Line Service” (despite the fact that it worked for over 2 months previously) for an added cost. ALSO, to cancel the line that no longer works as a fax would cost $40. An abysmal service. It did not work as advertised, was not as easy to set up as advertised and as is still only intermittent at BEST. I would not use VONAGE
at all. It is not worth the money even if it were free. We ordered a
Business level service on the thought it would be of higher quality only to
be totally dissatisfied. The customer service people are EXTREMELY hard to
understand (they are all in India or Manilla), and only get it to work intermittently. The advanced support is in Atlanta but is tough
to get too, and they have been unable to get the line to work as well. All in all, I feel this is a SCAM. Done so that a few execs could get rich on the IPO at the expense of the consumer. DON"T BUY IT, Just say no to VONAGE. |

Reviewers Comments:
Before you purchase vonage, please listen to my dealings with them.
I purchased about a month ago, and the phone service never worked, from day one.
I had to call 4 times in a month about my service going out, and the final time
I called (which I was disconnected on their side 'accidentally' THREE TIMES ) the customer service rep. said that he didn't care that
I had done the boot up three times before, that I had to do it , it was protocol.
I said this is very frustrating and he literally started yelling at me, saying he didn't have to be put through that, and basically told me to screw myself.
It was the last day of my 30 month trial, so I asked to cancel the service after that.
I was told that the cancellation department was closed (it was open until the 2nd time
I was disconnected) and that I had to call tomorrow, pay the monthly fee for that month, and a disconnection fee for going past
my 'trial period'. If you think the above may be a fluke, then I have a couple technical reasons why you should think twice.
If you have tivo, then you will have to buy a special adapter if your tivo is not in your internet room, for both the internet room and the tivo room. 911 is a hassle, you have to setup an account linked to your address, and call a special number that is not 911.
You will have to purchase the kind of phones that have one base and four or so other phones that you can put around the house that don't need a phone line.
Now, I am not a big fan of SBC, but check this out for all you home business owners out there: to have the business plan for
Vonage (with all the limitations and the terrible customer service and connectivity) it cost 49.95 plus other fees and such, brings it up to 60.00.
I just purchased a plan from SBC, that includes a phone line, a second phone line, and a
DSL internet account that after all taxes and fees my bill comes out to 81.00 a month.
Think about it. |
