Improcom Review by WhichVoIP

Improcom reviews go back as far as January 2010 below. With almost 100 reviews submitted by users there is a good sample size for our visitors to browse through. Overall, Improcom has an excellent review rating and an extremely high recommended percentage. Improcom was founded back in 1996 and are headquartered in Brooklyn, New York.

The Good

Improcom offer both a hosted VoIP solution as well as an on-premise PBX solution. The on-premise solution provides options for a system supporting either 8 to 32 users, 16 to 104 users or a solution that supports 50 to 350 users. The hosted solution is targeted at small offices (less than 10) up to enterprises (with 100's of users). Additional services available include SIP trunking, as well as many data-centric services (such as T1-line, network deployment/management, cabling/wiring, data center design/installations).

An abundant set of calling features is included with each of the available plans. Additional add-ons include extra (virtual) voicemail boxes, automated attendant, conference bridge, e-fax, v-fax, toll-free numbers, virtual numbers, and international phone numbers (inbound). USA based customer service is 24/7/365 and is not outsourced. Contract terms are month to month with different minute plan offerings and a 30-day money back guarantee.

A quote builder tool is available that enables potential new customers to quickly obtain customized price quotes for the service plan and features that are desired. As such the pricing is readily available and very transparent.

Both call recording and call monitoring are available are extemely competitive monthly rates. The first month of this service is free which enables users to test the service before continuing to pay for it on a monthly basis. Costs can of course mount up though depending on how many users use the feature as it is charged on a per month per user basis.

The Bad

When at first visiting the Improcom home page, it is not obvious that it primarily offers hosted VoIP service and on-premise phone system solutions. First impressions may confuse the average shopper into  thinking that company mainly offers call recording and monitoring services.

Although the quote builder tool is helpful in giving a quick price estimate, most customers likely want to be complete a form a be contacted to receive a customized price quote. Although Improcom does offer such a form on its site, it does take a bit of searching to find it.

There is no tiered pricing for the unlimited calling plan. The price is fixed at $29.95 regardless of how many users a company will have. While this is competitive when comparing unlimited pricing for companies with only a few users, most other providers have tiered pricing and offer lower rates when more lines are purchased. Improcom does however tier pricing based on the number of minutes per user per month and in some cases this may turn out to be a cheap option as not everyone needs to make a lot of calls and have the need for what is effectively a unlimited minute plan.

The auto-attendant feature costs $19.95 per month plus a $49.95 one time setup fee. As the auto-attendant is a popular feature with most businesses, this is often included for free by most providers.

No mobile app is currently available.

It is unclear as to what features are included with each service plan. However, for more information on this you can visit our provider features comparison tool.

The Bottom Line

  • Unlimited in/out calling plan - $29.95/month/ext
  • Metered 600 minutes out/unlimited in - $24.95/month/ext
  • Metered 250 minutes out/unlimited in - $19.95/month/ext
  • On-site Unified Communications solution is available.
  • Virtual Fax - $10.95 per month (unlimited inbound (to email) and outbound)

Overall Thoughts

Improcom differentiates itself from the competition by offering not only a hosted VoIP service, but also on-premise phone systems along with other services such as broadband T1 and cable and wiring. This potentially makes the company a one stop shop for a business's voice and data needs. The lack of a mobile app may however discourage some prospective customers, as many businesses are embracing the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) trend and require to have their employees leverage the capabilities of a Smartphone that utilizes a mobile app for all business calling. As with any business service purchase, WhichVoIP recommends that potential customers get custom price quotes and compare the overall offering with alternatives available on the market.
