TeleHop Business Services Review by WhichVoIP

Telehop, a public traded company, is a leading Canadian telecommunications service provider with over 20 years experience that offers a number of products and services to both residential and business customers. Telehop Business Services, formerly the G3 Telecom branch of the business, is the entity focused on providing Business VoIP phone services and is based in Toronto Canada.

The Telehop Business Services division offers multiple solutions, including a Hosted PBX service, SIP trunking, Call Center Solutions, Internet Fax services, and business Internet services (DSL, Ethernet via Fiber/Cable, and wireless solutions). This editor review focuses mainly on their Hosted PBX service.

The Good

Their popular VoIP plan is priced at $24.99 per user per month. This plan includes their standard feature set, plus their auto-attendant feature, along with unlimited calling across North America. Their basic feature set includes music on hold, voicemail, voicemail email notification, find me follow me, and hunt groups. Features such as audio conferencing are available for a small additional monthly fee. Toll free services and virtual numbers in any Canada or USA city are also offered for an additional fee.

A metered plan is also available, starting form $15.95 per user per month and includes just their basic set of features. If you are looking for lower cost plans with limited calling minutes we recommend giving them a call for more information as the website has limited information at the time of writing.

Fax solutions are available, including both Internet fax service and fax bridging if you still use a fax machine. The Internet fax solution starts at $8 per month and is a popular option instead of using a fax machine for many small businesses. They also offer an interesting global wireless roaming solution with a mobile 4G/LTE hotspot device. The user(s) can connect up to 10 devices to the hotspot with connectivity in 158 countries.

Other additional services include Call Center solutions starting from $25 per user per month and SIP trunks are also offered from $20 per phone line and can be used with your existing IP PBX. Professional voice services are also offered, for features such as auto-attendant for a professional appearance. Pricing is unavailable on their website so you will need to contact them for more information.

Telehop offers a selection of Polycom VVX series phones to purchase with options from entry level to high end business media phones. Grandstream IP phones are also offered for purchase, including the GXP2130, GXP2135, GXP2160, GXP2170, GXV3240, and the GXV3275 (again from entry level to higher end media phones). The benefit of buying IP phones through a provider is that they come pre-configured for their hosted system so you just need to plug them in. Again, you will need to contact them for pricing. Jabra headsets are also available.

Customer support is available via a toll-free number seven days a week between the hours of 8am and 10pm EST, or through their website ticketing system. There is very little knowledgebase content available on their website, with respect to common questions and guides for troubleshooting on your own.

The Bad

As with many service providers who have an unlimited calling plan a fair usage policy is enforced, with a maximum limit of 3,000 minutes per month per service plan. Going over this limit may incur per minute overage fees.

Unlimited calling does not include calls to Alaska and Hawaii, as well as some other US territories, but in fairness this is typical with most VoIP providers due to the higher costs of these destinations. We are noting here in case it is something you require with your phone service.

You will have to pay an additional monthly fee for some features like the auto-attendant and audio conferencing, depending on what plan you subscribe too.

There does not appear to be a trial option or money back guarantee option where you can try out the service up front.

The Bottom Line

  • Unlimited calling plan: priced at $24.99 per user per month. There is no indication of pricing breaks depending on number of users. We recommend calling for exact pricing.
  • Internet Fax: starting from $8 per month for this eFax type service.
  • Add-on Features: Auto-attendant feature is $25 per month and audio conferencing is available for $5 per month (minute usage charges may apply).
  • Add-on Services: Toll free numbers, virtual numbers and a remote office solution (providing global wireless roaming) are available also.
  • Other Services: Call Center and SIP trunking solutions are available as well as Internet connectivity options. Call for pricing

Overall Thoughts

Overall Telehop Business Services provide a solid VoIP phone solution at a competitive price. Where they may excel though is with the additional services they can provide, like Internet services and their global wireless roaming solution. Businesses interested in these additional services can bundle them together and reduce the number of providers they need to interact with.
