Default Zingotel - VoIP with a Wireless Modem

    hello,

I am about to order VoIP through Zingotel because I have found it is the least expensive and I am worried setting it up with a wireless modem is going to be problematic. I am not very computer savvy.

Is it difficult to set up VoIP with a wireless connection? I have two computers in the house(one desktop and one laptop) but the laptop is my primary, and want messages forwarded to the laptop. should I have a router?
    Thank you for your expertise.
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

I assume you already have a DSL or Cable broadband connection.

The first step should be to buy the wireless router and adapters for your pc and laptop. There are many good ones available and it's tough to go wrong with one from Linksys or DLINK. See:
    http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/voip_hardware.htm

Just follow the instructions and make sure your PC and laptop work with your wireless connection. I find doing it in stages like this is far better for debugging any problems (although you shouldn't have any

Next get your VoIP ordered and connected as per the instructions. Most providers recommend that you connect in this order:

Broadband Modem --> VoIP ATA --> Router --> PC and laptop

This guarantees that your voice calls get higher priority than your data traffic from the pc/laptop (e.g. internet traffic).

It honestly isn't too difficult so long as you read the instructions.

Please consider signing up for Zingotel through this link, this is what keeps our service free to our readers:

Thanks and let us know how you get one.

Thank you so much!!! Of course, i will absolutely go through whichvoip.com to purchase zingotel. Your knowledge in this area has been extremely helpful.

i have one last question however, you mentioned purchasing adapters for the computers? what kind of adapters? are thet called wireless adapters? or the ATA adapters to make the VoIP work?
    thanks.

Thank you for your kind words Jennifer.

Yes I was referring to wireless adapters. Normally these are PC Card adapters for laptops or USB adapters. For your PC you could use the USB adapter or buy a PCI based board that you will slot into your PC.

The VoIP ATA will be sent to you by Zingotel when you sign up for service. This is wired not wireless.

    Hope this helps

I have a wireless router (linksys) in my home, and my wife uses her laptop as well as a second computer, both with wireless adapters.

We have sunrocket, and it just plugged right into the wireless router, just like the main computer does. Super super easy, and it works fine.

    Our hookup is (cable modem):
wall --> cable modem --> linksys router --> computer, with the sunrocket "gizmo" plugged into one of the four wireless router jacks. No problems.
