    Default Voip.com problem

I Voip.com for my service after Sunrocket when belly up. Ever since I hooked it up it just randomly rings with a single ring, it does this at all hours of the day and night. I sent a request to Voip.com for help and 2 weeks later they finally emailed me back and said to make sure my firewall was on the outside of the voip box, it is, I had to set it up that way for Sunrocket and left it that way when I installed the box for Voip.com. The amount of time it took for them to respond was unacceptable and if I have to wait 2 more weeks for another response it will be a month that the thing is unplugged, I have to leave it unplugged or we cant get any sleep with the phone ringing all the time. Any help would be aprreciated. If I cant get it fixed this week I am going to cancel and just use my cell phone. Thanks, Larry.

This is a strange one Larry. Sounds almost like the equivalent of a ping but on your phone line.

When you say the firewall is on the outside of your voip box please elaborate - can you tell us what your setup looks like? do you have routers and pcs in your setup too? Broadband modem -> VoIP ATA -> Router/Switch etc?

Try taking the VoIP ATA box to a friends house and see if you get the same problem.

Can you get a temporary number to try from them - interested to hear if this is related to your current telephone number only.

Do you know anyone else that has a voip.com ATA that you can try?

This article is not related to your problem but worth running thorugh the steps in case there is something more fundamental:

    H Larry,

I've just had an email from my contact at VoIP.com and he wants to help. If you can reply to this post with your full name and/or customer number he said he would look into it for you. If you are uncomfortable with this please email me at calum@whichvoip.com and I will pass on your details.

    Cheers

I don't know anyone else with Voip.com service. The funny thing is that Sunrocket used the same box as Voip.com uses, I never had a problem with Sunrocket and I have it set up the same way. Cable modem>Voip box> router>computer.

    Default Message waiting

two of my past providers used something like this to let you know there are messages waiting in voice mail

It turns out that it was the actual phone, something about the line voltage or something, the Voip.com guy said to get a new phone and it hasn't happened since. Wierd that it didnt happen on my other service but I'm just glad it's fixed.
Thanks for the help guys. Larry

    Good news Larry.

That is strange but glad it's fixed. The line voltage is used for ringing the phone - wasn't just a bad connection on the RJ-11 from ATA to your phone was it?

Hopefully your troubles are behind you Larry.

    Thanks for sharing the outcome.
