Are VoIP calls like being on a Party Line

I am told that VOIP calls are like being on a party line. You can hear others, others can hear you! How private is VOIP and is any one company more prone to this - does any company claim to have it under control?

No James, definitely not like a party line. It's far easier to break into your regular PSTN landline than it is to break in and listen to a VoIP call.
