Default What internet type do I need for VoIP?

I currently have dial-up and and looking to switch and get a better internet with a phone system like Vonage. What type of internet can I get that would be the cheapest way to do this and do I need to keep my land line? If yes, how basic can I make the land line?

To use VoIP effectively you will need a broadband internet connection (also referred to as a High-speed internet connection). Broadband is just a general term for an intrnet connection that is faster than dial-up. The typical choices for residential applications are DSL and Cable. You can read more about this on our broadband information pages at the following link as well as have access to various special deals:

In general terms, DSL typically uses your existing phone line and Cable typically uses your cable (TV) connection. If you decide on DSL you will need to maintain your phone line (although you can strip it down to the bare essential). Cable is typically a bit more expensive than DSL service but it means you wont need your phone line if you have decided to switch to VoIP completely. So, depending on what service you go for will depend on how much you will end up saving. This is personal choice. The above link provides an introduction to the standard choices for broadband, what it is and some comparisons.

Our main focus is for VoIP providers and you will find that we have over 35 providers in our database (over 90 plans). You can use our search engine options to customize your search and find the best plan that suits your needs (we have 6 search options) or look to our home page for the most popular providers.

I hope this answers your questions.
    Best Regards,
    Mike
