    Default VoIP - Quad-wire safe?

    Hello,
    In the article http://michigantelephone.mi.org/distribute.html
it is strongly stressed that one should not use quad telephone wiring to carry Voip (fire hazard). To rewire my three-story home would be a difficult task. Can you pls indicate whether the current draw across wiring is sufficiently higher with VoIP service that fire hazard is real risk? I certainly will not compromise fire safety, but it's hard to imagine current draw is that great between adapter and conventional telephones. Is is possible amperage is adapter-manufacturer dependent? Maybe some adapter manufacturers have declared their devices "quad-wire-safe"? Thank you very much.

I would imagine there is a possibility of higher current flowing in your existing telephone wiring, depending on the drive voltage from the ATA device to make the telephone ring. As you mention, this could vary from ATA device to another. This is not information I currently have. In this case, my suggestion would be to contact the VoIP service providers you are interested in using before getting the service and ask their customer service this
question. I'm interested in hearing whether or not you find any "quad-wire-safe" ATA devices and if any VoIP service providers will answer your questions.
Good luck and maybe someone else out there has encountered this problem before.
    Thanks.
    Mike
