Default VoIP Configuration and Setup Question

I now have regular wireless phones with the main receiver in my kitchen. It transmits to two satellite phones around the house. My broadband connection is in a room without a phone jack. Do VOIP adaptors have to be plugged into the router or is there a way for the router to wirelessly connect to the adaptor in another room? I don't want to move the main phone (wall mount) to the room where the router is.

You shouldn't need to do any re-wiring.

If I am reading the question correctly simply hook up your broadband modem to the VoIP ATA adapter with an Ethernet cable. Connect the cordless base to the VoIP ATA with a standard telephone cable so then you have all your cordless phones working with VoIP. Connect an Ethernet cable from the VoIP ATA to a regular router and then you have data connectivity with your PCs.

This setup is optimum for your telephone calls too since the VoIP ATA comes before the router so it can maintain a good QoS for your voice assuming you have a decent broadband connection. It can regulate the PC data bandwidth to ensure your voice gets a higher priority.

I probably didn't make myself clear enough. Does the ATA have to be plugged in to the modem or router or is there any way for it to connect wirelessly?

Not aware of any wireless VoIP ATAs in the market place unfortunately. Although it certainly sounds like a product people would be interested in.

The only thing I have come across is by DLINK but it is not wireless. It has a built in router though which is pretty cool. It is a DLINK DVG-1402. Probably not good enough for what you are after though

...so yes at the moment the ATA has to be plugged into the modem or router.
