Default Two seperate telephone lines with different tel numbers

I am new to this VOIP ..my brother has switched from regular POTS service to ethernet (cable wideband) and to save money has taken the two phones (*upstairs and downstairs ) with two different telephone numbers assigned to them and is
going to disconect from the telephone company and hook them up to his ISP "Earthlink" who had convinced him that after the phone company disconects he should be able to hook up the phones
to his one telephone adapter which has "two" ports for phone #1 and phone #2...I've already checked the phone #1 and got "dialtone" ..Now the complete
disconnect takes place tommorrow as per what he knows ..and the question is ..and I know one of the phones may work..but will the other one work and if so will we be able to talk on them at the same time to
two different locations and other persons...and rec calls as we did in the past on the two seperate phones ...and if someone is on one phone ..will the other phone be able to rec a call and be able to talk on it??? Does that one phone adapter be able to break it all down ??? Only time will tell

    Hi Bob.

Yes it should be fine so long as he's paid for the 2nd line obviously through the VoIP provider.

So long as you have the bandwidth (uplink primarily)you should be fine. At the top Codec setting you need about 90kb/s bandwidth so so long as you have around 200Kbps on your uplink you should be able to handle 2 calls at once. Downlink should never be an issue.

Please let me know how you get on.

    Thanks.
    Andy
