Default Switching to VoIP to save money

I am interested in switching over to VoIP phone service, but I have a few questions...I use Alltel now for dsl and local and long distance calling....my bill runs around 120.00 a month, due to the high cost of dsl. How can I get VoIP service and not pay alltel for the dsl? Or is this possible? Can I call my mother who lives a block away with no cost to her or myself with VoIP? Please answer these questions...I am so interested in savings.

    Hi Cindy,
Good to hear you are considering VoIP phone service to save yourself a bundle of money. To answer your question I must first say that the one major requirement for VoIP phone service is a broadband internet service, such as DSL or Cable modem. If you are not happy with your DSL provider (high costs) you can check out our special deals on broadband internet service on our new Broadband page at:
    http://www.whichvoip.com/index_broadband.html
This section of our website provides a bunch of info on high speed internet and internet provider special deals.

Secondly, if you are considering VoIP you can save more money by getting a VoIP phone service plan that has a low fixed monthly fee. A lot of VoIP Providers have unlimited US and CAN calling, all included in the one monthly fee. This can range from $10/month to $40/month, depending on the VoIP Provider and plan you choose. Most VoIP Providers have a coverage area. You can then select whatever area code you want that they cover. Sounds like you will want to keep your existing area code if your mother lives close by. This way you will still be a local call away for your mother.

One other thing to note is that currently, to get DSL service you need a local phone service provider. You will be able to get the skeleton plan so you can keep DSL if you want and use VoIP phone service as your primary line (local and long distance, and even international for some plans). However, with cable internet you do not need to keep your existing phone line if you decide to switch to VoIP.

Check out our homepage for some special deals on VoIP Providers or try our FREE plan search to find the best VoIP Provider that suits your needs:

    Best Wishes,
    Mike
