Hello,
My dad has a vonage connection, now he wants to switch over to different provider. Will he be able to use the same ATA with different provider.
Thanks,
Michelle.

Probably not Michelle. The VoIP service providers generally do not want to go down this path.
I have seen a few that do it but they offer no guarantees. Besides, most providers give the ATA for free so don't worry about it.
Thanks.
Andy
I wouldnt agree with Andy completely. Most companies say that the ATA is free( but they have a setup fee that compensates for it). Nothing comes for free , after all. Some companies charge for the ATA but they dont have a set up fee.
I m using Skype and it has RapidBox Adaptor and i have been using it with great satisfaction. I bought it for its Auto Calling Router function. That means, I can plug my normal (PSTN/POTS) phone into it and use it to make and receive calls as usual as well as make/receive Skype calls. All from the same phone...so Guys Skype is satisfactory and u will never feel the need to switch over..
I live VERY remote and rely on my satalite internet for outside comunication. I have tried vonage, but didnt like the surprises on my bill and the delay was awfull. I now am on dolphin tel, and the service isnt reliable either, right now no one can hear me?. So Im on the hunt for another provider that is reliable and the quality of the phone is good, any suggestions![]()
PS, Im in Canada

Hi Laurie.
The best Canadian provider we have in our database right now (from user revies) is here. Take a peek:

By the way one concern I have is that you uplink speed is poor with Dolphin Tel. Using your PC go here and run the speed test - what is your speed, in particular the uplink?
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
If your uplink speed is poor (say less than 100kb/s) then no matter what provider you use you will likely have problems with VoIP.
Thanks.
Andy
