I have several phone extensions on my current telephone line. How can I keep these extensions? Do I need an ATA for each phone? Does that mean I have to have a cable line in each room I have an extension? If so isn't this going to get expensive?

One method people use for getting around this problem is by using cordless phones. You would have the base station plugged into your ATA and then have your cordless phones distributed around your house in your required locations. Cordless phones are very common and reasonably priced these days and provides a cheap, quick and easy option.
Another method that people have used (if you own your single family home) is to change their home wiring. This basically involves disconnecting your local phone line to your house from the Network Interface Unit box outside of your house. Once you have disconnected your phone line and verified this, you can connect the phone jack from your ATA (connected to your broadband service) into one of your home phone jacks and this will distribute your service throughout your phone jacks within your home (typically recommended that their be no more than 5 additional phone jacks). For this method I would recommend that you consult a qualified telephone or electrical engineer to verify the wiring if you dont feel comfortable for this type of work. Also make sure you confirm this type of work with your VoIP service provider and obtain any detailed directions they may have.
