Default Can I use VoIP for DirecTV?

Currently have DirecTv/DVR that uses my land line. Appears some VoIP providers can support this phone connection while others say they do not or don't mention at all. Are there real issues with VoIP and the DirecTv connection? Why are some able to support? Is there a listing of which providers have this capability?
    Thanks.

    Hi dw,
You are absolutely right, some VoIP Providers do state they support this and some dont. Check out this useful post:
    http://wiki.ehow.com/Make-Your-Direc...ge-VOIP-servic e

Due to the higher speeds of the link some providers cant guarantee support. I've read a lot of forum posts from people who have had no problem with TiVo type systems with VoIP and also from people who have had problems. It might not always be related to the VoIP Provider, but the area code you use (I've read posts by people who changed their area codes and it miraculously cured their problems) or even the routing.

Unfortunately some of this may be trial and error. We do not currently have a list of VoIP Providers that state they support DirecTV/DVR systems. TiVO and other Hardware providers also provide software updates that can may help also.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Mike
