Default Can I connect up home phones for VoIP only with DSL Service?

I want to keep my phone jacks around the house active.
Please, advise how to do it.
I understand that I have to disconnect my house from outside phone line and connect convertor to the any phone jack in my house.

But I have DSL which is phone line based internet connection.

If you have DSL service over your phone line (landline) then you cannot do what you want to do as you need to keep your phone line (landline) to use your DSL service. What you are referring to can be done if you use cable internet service for example, where you dont need your phone line as it uses cable connection. Default What if...?

Mike, I have a newer house with 4 pair wire ran in a full circuit (umbrella). Couldn't I run the DSL on the 2nd wire pair from provider and then serve VoIP service over the original wire pair? I would only need to rewire at land line service entrance point and DSL modem wall jack? That way only DSL rides second pair and original first pair is available to all existing jacks for VoIP service.

Very clever, yes I believe that should work.

Connect the VoIP ATA to the DSL modem with CAT5 and hook 2nd pair to land line at demarcation point. Just remember to disconnect 1st pair :-)

    Good thinking!

    Thanks for your input.
