Are alarm systems compatible with VoIP?

I have an alarm system. They say it is not compatible with VOIP. Please help, if there is an adapter or anything that will work with ADT.

This is still a reasonably grey area and some people have no problems with their alarm systems through their VoIP provider and some people do. I recently came across a company called NextAlarm.com which look like they provide alarm monitoring directly over your broadband connection (doesn't need VoIP to work). Below is a link to their information page for their broadband alarm monitoring service. They also have a "Comaptibility Page" which states they are compatible with ADT Safewatch Pro Series models (in case this is what you use).

The only downside is that you have to pay for the service (although its cheaper than a landline).

These services may be more reliable than hoping that your security system will work with your VoIP service. But, as I say, it may be worth trying first in case you are one of the people who it does work for.
